Coachella Founder Confirms First Two Headliners For 2022, First For 2023

As of April this year, it was still just too early to throw a major music festival in the US. Thus, Coachella was postponed for the second year running. Festivals later in the year, like this past weekend’s HARD Summer and Lollapalooza were a couple of the first major festivals back, but those like Ultra and Coachella weren’t so lucky.

Still, Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett wanted to provide fans some “reassurance” given the difficult year the concert and live event industry has faced since March 2020. So, he confirmed that Rage Against the Machine and Travis Scott will return to headline the festival in 2022, while Frank Ocean has been bumped to 2023 in a rare interview with LA Times.

“Right now, it’s the Wild West,” Tollett is quoted as saying. “I’m just trying to be as fair as I can to artists and to the fans to make sure that eventually they get to see everyone that we talked about.”

Tollett also discussed the decision to wait until its normally scheduled month in 2022 rather than throw a festival in Fall 2021, like some other events. “You’ll never remember that you had to wait, but you’ll remember if you went to a really bad event.”

Marshmello Opens His Lollapalooza Set With New Ray Volpe Collab [WATCH]

Lollapalooza began this Thursday, setting off four day of intense festival vibes in Chicago. Illenium and Steve Aoki closed out the festival on Thursday, but yesterday saw Marshmello taking closing duties and by all accounts, it was a time and a half.

Of particular note was his opening track, which happens to be a forthcoming collaboration with new Disciple Records signee, Ray Volpe. Confirmed by Ray’s manager on Instagram, Pat Ward, who also manages Blanke, Heimanu, and Redrum, Marshmello opened the set with the explosive new collab, calling on the crowd to “take it back to the old school sound.”

The combination sounds like a match made in heaven, blending the two artists’ styles into a whopping festival banger that’s sure to get regular play throughout the rest of the year.

Lights Confirms New Collab With Seven Lions From Red Rocks

Seven Lions made his momentous return to Red Rocks earlier this week, supported by Mitis, Gem + Tauri, and special guest Andrew Bayer. The whole show was probably pure magic, the attendees could attest, but Twitter seems to be abuzz about one particular ID from the Ophelia head’s set — and it’s been confirmed to be a collaboration with Lights.

Lights just put out a new single with deadmau5, plus a “meowingtons remix,” so she’s fresh in the EDM zeitgeist. This new collaboration, especially with one of EDM’s preeminent melodic bass artists, is sure to have fans going head over heels once it finally releases.

So far, there’s not a whole lot more information about the release, but the video and knowledge that Lights is singing on it is enough to get curiosities piqued.

Sparkee Adds Electrifying Touch To “Orbit” By Ellis [Monstercat]

Sparkee is the new king of funk-tronic music. He’s curated an immaculate discography, perfectly meshing disco, funk, and electronic into a truly iconic sound.

The talented Canadian producer has already had a massive year, most recently winning Tiesto’s remix contest with his rendition of The Business that has already earned over 1.6 million streams on Spotify. Now, Sparkee is back with another incredible remix, this time for Ellis and his song “Orbit“, out exclusively on none other than Monstercat.

Sparkee’s remix is another hit in his arsenal, packed with bright, NuDisco melodies that can’t help but make you want to move the minute you press play. Here’s what Sparkee had to say about it:

“I’ve been focusing on remixes this year and wanted to enter a few contests along the way. I was super excited when this one showed up on Label Radar! I’m a big fan of the original and was super excited to put my spin on this one. I stuck to my strengths and created the ultimate fusion of retro vibes with over-the-top 80’s guitar playing and funky basslines.”

euphorian makes their Never Say Die debut with incredible “youth” EP

At the end of every year, Your EDM releases a list of 40 artists we believe will do great things in the following year. In 2020, we put euphorian on that list, and their debut EP on Never Say Die only serves to reinforce that our decision was 100% accurate.

Where to even begin with youth, the 6-track EP that dropped today on NSD. It’s bombastic, diverse, powerful, and perpetually interesting. It’s also a sound that we haven’t really heard on NSD apart from Moore Kismet, which is no coincidence as the two are friends and Moore actually designed euphorian’s new cover art and logo.

But that is not to say that euphorian was given special treatment — one listen to the EP will throw away all misconceptions of such as you intently listen to the bubbling synths, deep bass, and beautiful melodies on each of the tracks. Beginning with the dazzling chaos of “mentality” and ending with the opulent, refined songwriting and composition of “magic,” the entire EP is a polished and pure listening experience from start to finish.

Listen to youth below and don’t forget to follow euphorian!

Nostalgix Embraces 90s It Girl Energy in New Single “Friends” ft. Amy Miyú [LISTEN]

Nostalgix, our favorite 90s it girl keeps the heat coming with “Friends” featuring Amy Miyú.

The bold and spirited “Friends” production hits even harder than much of Nostalgix’s already impressive catalogue. Amy Miyú serves up sassy and abrasive vocals, backed by a “Girl Power” mentality and hyped up Nostalgix signature sounds.

Not only is the song a banger, it perfectly fits Nostalgix’s overall project aesthetic — girly but sporty, sparkly and grainy, fun and empowering. Also, demonstrated here by the “Friends” artwork, which is inspired by the hottest Y2K toy, Bratz Dolls.

Nostalgix has a bright summer ahead as the Vancouver artist is set to play her first run of US festivals, with her debut taking place at HARD Summer this weekend. Followed up by sets at Fvded in the Park, Beyond Wonderland PNW, Spring Awakening, EDC Orlando, Audiotistic and more.

“Friends” is out now via Thrive Music! Listen here!

NGHTMRE Remixes Illenium & Matt Maeson’s “Heavenly Side” [LISTEN]

NGHTMRE offers another way to listen to Illenium and Matt Maeson’s recent release, “Heavenly Side.”

“Heavenly Side” in its original form is a fresh take on the signature Illenium sound fans know and love, romantic as ever with an alternative edge. The song is all about overcoming pain, anger and darkness to become a new and improved version of yourself.

Trading the production’s emotional, rock-fused undertones for a more upbeat, dance arrangement with pitched-up vocals and bright synths, “Heavenly Side” is nearly unrecognizable in NGHTMRE’s remix. If you already love the original, try to go in with an open mind.

Listen and hear “Heavenly Side” in a new light!
