Wastemall Enlists Jude York For Tasteful New Single “Glaciers”

Kicking off his career only last year with his debut EP Don’t Tell Me, Wastemall is already starting to amass a loyal following off the back of his impressive productions and immersive visuals. Based in Brisbane, the producer and visual artist’s music is undoubtedly multi-faceted, perfectly fitting on the dance floor, as well as more intimate and personal settings.

Marking his first release this year, Wastemall is coming to October Records to share impressive gem “Glaciers” featuring singer and songwriter Jude York, who is also known as 1/2 of brotherly duo The Beamish Brothers. While the song brings together energetic choruses, stunning melodies and ethereal vocal lines, the music video, created by Wastemall himself, uses surreal landscapes and visuals to depict the themes and ideas that Jude York conveyed through his songwriting.

“Glaciers came together after a long period of personal growth, and features some dark and brooding, yet melancholic synth-work. I was immediately hooked by Jude York’s first vocal demo he sent through, he had really managed to capture in his lyrics the emotion that subconsciously pours into an instrumental track,” says Wastemall, while Jude York adds: “This song came about when Wastemall’s label sent me the track amidst a bunch of other instrumentals. The bones of what would become Glaciers instantly hooked me. It seemed like the perfect home for lyrics about an icy heart, about the aftermath of summer passion after the heat goes. Honestly the song just poured out once I had the concept in mind. My favourite part is actually the bridge – the melody is super minimal and punchy with loads of countermelodies in the mix too! Overall this song was super thrilling to be a part of.”

DJ Tiara Teams Up With Swatkat To Share Infectious Dancefloor Gem “Falling”

Having been active within the entertainment industry for more than a decade, starting out as a dancer and transitioning to a DJ and producer, DJ Tiara is without a doubt a massive rising name to keep your eye on. She has been on fire recently with tracks such as “Fine Without U” with Ardo released on FRQNCY and “Fire” via Don Diablo’s HEXAGON label (which also peaked on Beatport Top 12), and now just shared yet another infectious single alongside Indian DJ Swatkat, titled “Falling.”

DJ Tiara has been featured on Asia’s Top 25 DJs two times already, and this new track definitely proves why. Out via SUB RELIGION and HEXAGON, it is a truly impressive roller coaster through catchy breaks and hard-hitting climaxes. Ethereal vocals and atmospheres kick off the tune as it quickly builds up, before it explodes into a series of bass-driven and anthemic drops that are perfectly made for any dancefloor.

Valentino Khan First EVER DJ To Perform WWE’s SummerSlam

WWE today announced that producer and DJ Valentino Khan will perform at WWE’s biggest event of 2021, SummerSlam. Khan will welcome fans as they arrive at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where Illenium threw one of, if not the biggest solo headline EDM concert ever just last month. SummerSlam will take place this Saturday, August 21, marking the first time the annual event has been held at an NFL stadium.

“Being part of a WWE event is a childhood dream come true for me. From growing up in the ‘Attitude Era’ till now, I’ve been a fan all my life and truly have respect for the business. The fact that I get to connect with the WWE universe through my own music is an incredible full circle moment. I can’t wait to go hard at SummerSlam in Vegas,” said Valentino Khan.

There couldn’t be a more perfect DJ for the occasion, and anyone who was at Valentino Khan’s release party at 1720 in Los Angeles in August 2019 can attest to that.

“We strive to create a vibrant atmosphere at all WWE events and music plays a very important role whether it be at live events or throughout WWE programming. We’re looking forward to having Valentino Khan kick off the festivities at SummerSlam this Saturday,” Neil Lawi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, WWE Music Group.

SummerSlam will stream live at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT exclusively on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.

Your EDM Premiere: AL/SO Advises Wary Fans to Take a Nice, Hot ‘Toaster Bath’ [Korsakov Music]

When the legendary Korsakov events company announced their intent to spawn a label in 2018, no one was sure if this would simply be another promoter side project to gain exclusivity on performance contracts, or a real label worth its mustard. Thanks to the hiring of the “Cantankerous” Elmar Van Eijk whose A&R proved invaluable but whose energy is akin to that of a Tasmanian devil, we can now safely say Korsakov Music is not only thriving but has become a household name in dancefloor drum & bass.

Taking on the irritatingly untaggable artist moniker AL/SO, Van Eijk has had a number of his own releases on the Dutch imprint, so now he’s also known for his own brand of high-quality dancefloor tunes, one of the most high-energy and infectious live DJ shows out there and a sick sense of humor when it comes to release titles. With previous titles like the now dancefloor standard “Party Every Day” with High Maintenance and “Booger Sugar” and “Dutch Courage” as Ancient Radius, his project with AKOV and Multiplex, it would only stand to reason that AL/SO’s debut solo album, Toaster Bath due out this Friday, August 20, would be stamped with that horrifying irony as well.

With lots of collabs under his belt, AL/SO has really struck out on Toaster Bath, with the only collab track being “Earthquake” with Holdem and vocals and guitars on “Brace Yourself” provided by Gid Sedgwick and Tom Vernon, respectively. Once past the initial shock of the title and tongue-in-cheek cover photo, fans will find a technically clean, well-constructed and, of course, highly danceable EP laced with neuro-style sub bass and punishing synths. The big surprise on the EP comes from the afore-mentioned “Brace Yourself,” which reveals AL/SO’s love of classic metal as he mixes Vernon’s Laiho-level guitar prowess, Sedgwick’s modernized Iron Maiden screamo vox and a punishing dancefloor beat. Van Eijk took a big risk on this track but if live reactions are anything to by, it’s paid off in spades.

Our premiere today and the last track to be teased before Toaster Bath drops is, appropriately, the title track. Full of his trademark humor in the form of electrocution and water samples, the layered synths on “Toaster Bath” are also heavily charged while the uber-fast beat drives the track along. It’s a lovely dancefloor-neuro crossover vibe in this track, and that’s one way it gets away with all the suicide references. The other is, well, it’s AL/SO. Fans would expect nothing less than a shocking (pardon the pun) nod to death and electrocution in the middle of a plague. That notwithstanding, however, it’s an extremely solid, fun track and punters can bet it will be widely played on big rigs across the world come fall. It’s an excellent Halloween track.

Toaster Bath is bound to raise some eyebrows with its title and contents, if not fully offend the more delicate constitutions of of this trying time, but luckily drum & bass is built for this sort of humor. We also must remember that some of the best yet most macabre art and humor has come out of scary times and society was almost always better for it: guillotine fashion during the French Revolution, for example, or the phantasmagoria, Mary Shelly’s FrankensteinDracula and more that came out of the smallpox-and-cholera-riddled early 1800s. Even the children’s nursery rhyme “Ring a Ring of Roses (Ring Around the Rosey)” is about plague sores and death. Toaster Bath might be the cheeky smirk we need while skanking on the dancefloor as raves come back full-time, and if nothing else, it’s one hell of a quality EP.

Toaster Bath releases on Korsakov Music on Friday, August 20.  Click here to pre-order or pre-save.

Excision & Kai Wachi Drop Debut Collab, “Demisaur” [LISTEN]

For their first-ever collaboration, Excision and Kai Wachi sure went as hard they possibly could. And, why wouldn’t they? From bass music’s reigning dino lord to the beefiest dubstep Adonis, both have made a career of putting out the wildest and heaviest tracks they could. (Of course, they both have some softer material but that’s irrelevant in this case.)

There’s not much to say about “Demisaur” other than it succeeds in its sole goal: pumping out as much bass as possible. There isn’t too much innovation in the production, the rhythm, or the style. It just wants to rattle your chest and leave you breathless, and not only is that completely okay, it does its job.

“Demisaur” follows a string of recent collaborations from Excision, including “Salvation,” “Broken Pieces,” “Bunker Buster,” “Unbound” and more. Between consistent Subsidia releases, curating two new events, and working on an upcoming album, Excision has been incredibly busy in 2021.

The Weeknd Reveals Swedish House Mafia as Major Influence for Upcoming Album

The Weeknd x Swedish House Mafia sounds like a very real possibility.

Rumors of a potential collaboration from these influential artists have been swirling for quite some time. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but it also makes complete sense — especially considering The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia work under the same management.

Either way, The Weeknd has revealed the inspirations behind his upcoming album. The list includes Britney Spears, Nas, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Tyler, the Creator — as well as dance music legends, Swedish House Mafia.

During the latest episode of his show Memento Mori on Apple Music, The Weeknd played out a powerful mix of music, showcasing the tracks that inspired “the new Dawn era,” including Swedish House Mafia’s recent original “It Gets Better.”

“Album is pretty much done,” The Weeknd declared. “Just doing some final tweaks, some mixing notes, additional vocals.”

Disclosure Prep New 5-Track EP With Another Fresh Single, “Happening”

It was just yesterday that Disclosure dropped new music, “In My Arms,” their first original of 2021. Now, as they have now made a habit of doing, they’ve dropped a second single, “Happening” and labeled an EP with a couple additional edits.

Like “In My Arms,” “Happening” is a much more minimal and chill side of house that more befits a sunset on a beach sipping on something sweet and cold than a large stage with flashing lights and a professional sound system. It’s all about vibes.

Disclosure Tells Apple Music about new track ‘Happening’

Check out both new songs below. There are still three more to go!
