Not to mention the “sharpened teeth” of the producer’s breakthrough modular synthesis and processing.

Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize shares of the album:

I’ve always been inspired by trying to integrate opposing, polar forces. There’s something really thrilling in it, and it’s always a secret motivation for me; building and exploring the combination of contrasts. Techno’s earliest inspiration was the idea of combining man and machine. And you can continue from there—aggression and beauty, past and future…

PREMIERE: Sineself & Linney Team Up For Beautiful Single, “Up At Night” [Lowly]

Sineself has carved out a melodic-bass lane with the steadily growing support of fans and tastemakers alike. With hundreds of thousands of streams under his belt, his music has landed everywhere from Spotify’s Electro Mix to an array of global New Music Friday placements. It’s a collection of well-deserved looks for an artist who synthesizes influences from Porter Robinson to the xx, making for a sound that’s wholly his own.

As for Linney, she’s made inroads with over 20 million collective streams and collaborated with the likes of trance legend Gareth Emery while allotting a range of plays on Armin van Buuren’s essential radio show, A State of Trance. Her music has also notched an array of syncs including Riverdale (The CW) and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix).

Together, these two make an excellent team. Their brand new single, “Up At Night” is a testament to the impeccable talent of each artist, as it accomplishes blissful, beautiful tones that we can’t help but love. Driven by melancholic guitars, upbeat production, and deeply catchy vocals, Sineself and Linney have truly created something special: a song that feels timeless.

Deadmau5 Is Launching His Own Virtual World, Oberhasli, An Interactive Music/Entertainment Experience

Leave it to someone like deadmau5 to take the past year’s slate of live stream and virtual reality performances and expand it even further. Teaming up with Core, a platform that combines a radically accessible game creation platform with an endless universe of games to play and worlds to explore, he’s creating his own virtual world dubbed Oberhasli.

Going way beyond what we have seen to date with musicians throwing concerts online or in virtual reality, deadmau5 will be building an ever-evolving online world featuring concerts, social experiences, videos, exclusive music, games, and a lot more. His project is not only a showcase for what the power of radically accessible platforms can enable but also a cool example of how artists can build their own visions, not just be hired for performances.

“Creating a world like Oberhasli has been a vision of mine for years now, but I quickly discovered how daunting it can be to create a multiplayer experience as a solo developer,” said Joel Zimmerman who is deadmau5. “The amazing thing about Core is that anyone can jump in and create content regardless of experience or resources. We’ve seen virtual concerts in the past, but after making a splash, they fizzle out; there’s no shelf life to them. With Oberhasli, I want to create a permanent mainstay for the artists’ metaverse, regularly updating it over time, switching things up and keeping it cohesive with real-world news and ancillary events.”

“We’re so happy to be working with deadmau5 again to bring this truly innovative vision of his to life,” said Frederic Descamps, CEO and co-founder, Manticore Games. “We think the Metaverse will be built by thousands of creators, game makers, and artists who can share unique interactive experiences with their audience and generate income from their work. Oberhasli isn’t a sponsored marketing stunt – it’s a persistent home for all things deadmau5 inside of Core.”

More details about Oberhasli will be revealed soon, so stay tuned to twitter.com/coregames for more updates as we bring this amazing world to life. Core is available for free on the Epic Games Store at https://www.epicgames.com/store/p/core.

Fans will be able to socialize with each other, play games, listen to live music performances and much more when Oberhasli debuts on October 14 with an exclusive live music performance featuring deadmau5 and friends.

Your EDM Premiere: LA Power Producer Dr. Apollo’s Rapid Rise to RAM

Looking at Dr. Apollo’s Beatport discography, which begins with a track called “Red” on Hospital’s Sick Music 2019 compilation with fellow SoCal selekta Dip Vertigo and vocalist J. Leo Phillips, it’s clear that he not only hit the ground running, but he was always headed for big things. From there, Reid Speed’s label Play Me took a shining to the artist, releasing most of his work in 2019 and 2020, including collabs with Ms. Speed herself and MC Chickaboo.

From there, Viper and Bassrush got ahold of Dr. Apollo for their Bassrush 4.0 collab compilation as he teamed up with Bassrush baddy, Richter. Then he was clocked on RAM for their 2021 Annual with a track called “In Color” before releasing probably one of the most fun tracks of the year, “I’ve Been Waiting” on DeVice with Rene LaVice and Richter, featuring Gracie Van Brunt on vox. If we were reciting this whole list out loud, we’d be out of breath. The point is, Dr. Apollo’s star quality seems to already have been written in the stars.

It may have seemed inevitable that Dr. Apollo would come back to RAM via Program, but not everyone who has a track on the annual gets a stand-alone release signed. Even fewer American and none until now have managed to hook a full LP with the notoriously picky A&R team at RAM. It’s a big deal, and given he’s barely been on the release radar releasing since 2019, it’s literally unheard of.

The album, called The Simulation LP, is diverse and ravey, full of snares, amens and general sounds that someone who’s only been producing for two years shouldn’t know about. Like many artists from LA, however, Dr. Apollo is clearly tapped into the old school. In fact, there’s even a track on the album called “Mo90s,” which, unsurprisingly, is all blown out, ameny snares and rave piano. The Doc has clearly been waiting a long time to release some of this stuff and he’s pulling on 30 years of D&B to do it.

Our premiere today is “Holy Grail,” the album’s opening track and an excellent cross section of what’s to come on The Simulation LP. The intro is a chopped up amen break snare fused with those lovely rave pianos and sound design. The snares continue to make up the bulk of the drumline as well as the phrase transitions but after the first drop, Dr. Apollo shows the audience that its not dealing with just another 90s nostalgia track. A sine wave synth comes in after said drop that instantly modernizes the track and wakes up any listeners who may have been lulled into the melodics of the stings and ambient sound design. It’s a perfect blend of classic and modern and a full-on homage to the amen break.

Jazz, jungle, dark synths, banger bass and a fusion of old and new is what fans can expect from this first ever American LP out on RAM this Friday, August 27 on Beatport. If you haven’t been paying attention to Dr. Apollo The Simulation LP, now is the time to start. The labels certainly are.

SiriusXM Launches TikTok Radio, Featuring ‘Trending Sounds That Are Redefining Pop Culture’

Taking the pros or cons out of the equation, it’s no secret that TikTok as a platform is massively driving engagement and opportunities to new artists. While there are some algorithmic anomalies, by and large, TikTok serves content to its users that they regular engage with and identify with. As a result, music discovery on the platform — for those who have trained their algorithm to do so — is incredibly easy and  can be incredibly lucrative for artists.

Capitalizing on “trending sounds that are redefining pop culture,” satellite radio pillar SiriusXM has recently launched TikTok Radio (Ch. 4), hosted  by personalities, DJs, and artists who’ve achieved a following on the platform.

“Sonically synched to the TikTok experience, the groundbreaking, full-time music channel will sound like a radio version of the platform’s ‘For You Page,’” SiriusXM elaborated of the new station. “Listeners can expect to hear trending songs from music’s next generation of rising stars, viral hits, and whatever else the TikTok community is vibing to.”

Interestingly, rather than a rote radio station with a person behind a desk queuing up tracks, SiriusXM specified that DJ Habibeats and DJ CONST will serve as “TikTok Radio’s resident DJs,” where they will “spin LIVE, simultaneously, on TikTok and TikTok Radio every week.”

Though they likely won’t be on duty the whole time, so you can expect a regular rotation of tracks otherwise.

One thing to note about music on TikTok — apart from the trending songs, many musicians also post works in progress or creative edits and remixes that aren’t cleared to be played on the radio, so don’t expect to hear many of Wuki’s interesting mashups on SiriusXM anytime soon.

TikTok Radio (Ch. 4) is available now, in vehicles and as a streaming channel on the SXM App, desktop, and all connected devices.

Ingrosso’s Social Media Post Fuels Rumors of Swedish House Mafia Tour

Wherever Swedish House Mafia goes, speculation follows — and 1/3 of the group took to social media over the weekend to drop some subtle hints that they may be touring soon!

Ingrosso opens up in the post, backed by six stunning crowd shots, below:

I really don’t write captions because I believe the music should speak for what we want to say. But I am blessed to be able to do what I do with the people I respect and admire the most. I can’t wait to see our fans and show them what we have because it really means the most to us you are the reason that we are here and that we came together again we miss you all so damn much!

The words “can’t wait to see our fans and show them what we have,” strung together in perfect harmony, only fuel rumors and expectations of an upcoming Swedish House Mafia tour. The EDM supergroup currently has no shows announced, but that could all change in an instant, especially with the impending release of a new album.

The trio, also consisting of Axwell and Steve Angello, recently unleashed two back-to-back singles — “Lifetime” with Ty Dolla $ign & 070 Shake and “It Gets Better.” They also played some unreleased tunes as part of their BBC Radio 1 Dance Weekend mix.

Breakaway Music Festival Takes Over Michigan, Ohio & North Carolina in 2021

Breakaway Music Festival is coming in hot with 2021 lineups that feature some of the very best in dance music, hip hop and beyond — and we caught up with Adam Lynn, the Co-Founder and President of organizer Prime Social to learn more about the experience.

“One of the things we like to do is bring really awesome experiences to secondary markets,” Lynn explains. “That’s why we love being in places like Columbus and Grand Rapids, bringing what we think is a true festival experience to smaller markets in people’s backyards. That was the thesis of Breakaway and now we’ve scaled to a lot more cities.”

This weekend, Breakaway Michigan returns to Belknap Park in Grand Rapids over August 27 & 28 with two major headliners, EDM sensation Illenium and acclaimed singer-songwriter Quinn XCII. The lineup also includes Gryffin, Big Wild, Chelsea Cutler, Madeon, Loud Luxury, Dion Timmer, Frank Walker, Gettoblaster, Elderbrook, Alexander 23, Drummxnd and DŸLAN.

Lynn lists Michigan’s own Quinn XCII as a major highlight, “He started off as one of the opening acts for the festival and now he’s headlining his own day. Being able to share that experience firsthand with these artists — where they go from the opener to the headliner. That happened with Louis the Child and a ton of different acts where we’ve been able to help elevate their career through the Breakaway platform.”

Next month, Breakaway Ohio is set to take place at Historic Crew Stadium over September 3 & 4, featuring Kygo and Illenium on headlining duties. Plus, Chelsea Cutler, Gryffin, 24KGOLDN, Madeon, Sofi Tukker, Channel Tres, Elderbrook, John Summit, Sonny Fodera, Two Feet, Alexander 23, Bonnie x Clyde, Sam Feldt, Sidepiece and more.

Breakaway North Carolina, taking over Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 1 & 2, features yet another impressive lineup of acts with Martin Garrix, G-Eazy, and The Chainsmokers leading the pack. Also, Swae Lee, Two Friends, Wax Motif, Gryffin, Lane 8, Trevor Daniel and more.

As mentioned, Breakaway’s concept brings people from different areas and with various musical tastes together. “We love the idea that we’re not strictly a one-genre festival,” Lynn shares. “We’re across many genres. We’re not just an EDM festival, we’re more of a contemporary festival with whatever is really trending in music.”

Explore the lineups below and get tickets to Breakaway Music Festival in your area here.

Will Smith, The Chainsmokers & More Team On NASCAR-Based RomCom For Amazon Studios

What do you get when you combine Will Smith, The Chainsmokers, NASCAR, and Amazon? Apparently, a new romantic comedy.

Smith will produce the film, called Clean Air, created by Amazon Studios with The Chainsmokers and manager Adam Alpert executive producing via their studio Kick The Habit Productions.

According to the exclusive from Deadline, “The film follows Lyla, an ambitious sports agent who loses her superstar client before the start of NASCAR’s season and decides to take a chance on a rebellious female dirt track racer, seventeen-year-old Piper Kyte. With her career on the line, Lyla’s challenge—getting Piper NASCAR-ready—is only won if she can also reform Piper’s reclusive father, Matthew Kyte, a former NASCAR champion who infamously walked away from the sport and hasn’t been seen in four years.”

The plot sounds just a tad bit like Disney’s 2001 film, Motocrossed, but only enough to infer inspiration.

There are plenty of other productions in the works from The Chainsmokers’ Kick The Habit Productions, including the feature Paris for TriStar Pictures based on The Chainsmokers’ hit song, Every Nite Is Emo Nite based on the popular concert series Emo Nite and audio-only music competition series Breakthrough for Audible.

No release date has been given for Clean Air, but we’ll be on the lookout.
