New Avicii Documentary with Never-Before-Seen Footage & Interviews Coming 2023

Another Avicii documentary is in the works, set for a 2023 release.

The upcoming film is described as a snapshot of the “artist who defined an era and changed the world of music forever.” It’s an “up-close, intimate, and epic story about his unparalleled successes and his struggles to cope with the pressure.”

Never-before-seen archive footage and interviews with the man behind the music, Tim Bergling, is a major draw. Plus, exclusive interviews with Bergling’s family, friends and collaborators.

Swedish director Henrik Burman shares:

My goal is to provide an honest and new perspective on both the artist Avicii and Tim’s life. I want this to be a film that surprises the audience and challenges the public’s image of Sweden’s biggest international artist of today and, in doing so, also shine a light on what his music has meant to so many people.

Previously released documentary, Avicii: True Stories, captivated audiences with its raw depiction of the highs and lows of the producer’s music career. Never shying away from personal struggles Avicii faced, the doc sparked a much needed conversation about mental health in the music industry.

Further details on the new documentary, including title and release date have yet to be revealed.

Saint Punk shares raw emotions through highly anticipated debut album: ‘Ouroboros’

It’s rare to follow an artist since their beginning (or thereabouts) and be with them through their journey. It’s a sentiment I’ve regularly expressed with many artists, though the sincerity never diminishes each time it’s uttered. If anything, it only rings more true. At Your EDM, we’ve had the pleasure of covering Saint Punk since his second-ever release, “Guttah,” back in 2019. Now, two years later, his debut album has arrived: Ouroboros.

The ouroboros is a symbol you’ve likely seen in a variety of settings, most commonly associated with ancient Egyptian and Greek mythology.

“The ouroboros to me represents a neverending cycle,” Saint Punk says. “Writing this album felt like Groundhog Day, waking up only to  repeat the same events the day before. Some time has passed since I’ve written these songs though and the ouroboros also has come to
represent new life for me. That’s how I choose to see it now. A never-ending force of momentum, pushing and pulling, grinding against the grain, to be born into something worthy of the effort. Something with purpose. It’s everything I experienced and felt in 2020, from anger to sadness to euphoria, depression and more. It’s basically a journal put to music.”

Out of 14 songs on the album, only 4 were previously released as singles, giving way to a huge amount of discovery within the album itself, including “Psycho Sicko” with Holy Wars, serving up “Sofi Needs A Ladder” vibes if it was a harder, bass house number; or “Animal” with Whyel, giving blisteringly fast electro-punk energy.

Mixing punk and bass house influences seems like an absolute no-brainer having been through the album, and you wonder why it hasn’t been done to this extent before. Well, it appears the sound was just waiting for the right artist.

Boys Noize Stuns with Thrilling, Career-Defining Album ‘+/-‘ [MUST LISTEN]

+/- (Polarity), the brand new album from Boys Noize has arrived and it’s a thrilling, magnetic ride based on the idea of opposites attracting.

Spanning 15 total tracks, the enthralling body of work “encapsulates a distillation of his career-to-date in waveform shape.” Star-studded collaborations, immersive soundscapes, meticulous sound design, and raw, unexpected moments are all part of the experience, with the producer’s innovative approach to modular synthesis on full display.

I’ve always been inspired by trying to integrate opposing, polar forces. There’s something really thrilling in it, and it’s always a secret motivation for me; building and exploring the combination of contrasts. Techno’s earliest inspiration was the idea of combining man and machine. And you can continue from there—aggression and beauty, past and future… – Boys Noize

Collaborations with Kelsey Lu, Rico Nasty, Ghost Culture, ABRA, Jake Shears, Corbin, Tommy Cash, Chilly Gonzales and Vinson shake up the mix, offering an unprecedented range of sounds, speeds and styles only Boys Noize could convey so eloquently.

The album dives into the polar tension between the musical styles and worlds I find myself in. When you combine opposites, something transcendent can take place, something greater than the two parts. And with music, it becomes a magic that can create new worlds. – Boys Noize

To celebrate the new era of music, Boys Noize will host a +/- album launch live stream tonight from 9 – 12 PM PST, 12 – 3 AM EST. Tune it at twitch.tv/boysnoize.

LSDREAM Releases Third Mind-Melting Album, “PEACE LOVE & WUBZ” [LISTEN]

The last release from TWONK-lord Brillz came in 2017, after which he introduced a new “tripped-out side project” in 2018, as Your EDM called it at the time. Well, three years and change later, and LSDREAM is now much more than just a side project and the LA-based producer is making major waves with the alias.

Today marks the release of LSDREAM’s third studio album, PEACE LOVE & WUBZ, featuring four previously-released singles and seven new tracks including collaborations with MeSo & Elephant Heart, Karra, Z-Trip, Buku, another with Taylr Renee, and LIGHTCODE.

LSDREAM speaks on the intention of the LP saying, “The PEACE LOVE & WUBZ album is a collage of hybrid genre Bass music intended to spark joy and raise the vibration of the collective. This album is a ‘container,’ so throw in the shit that’s been weighing on you, the shit that’s bringing you down. Now go dance, wiggle, laugh, sing, and express yourself.”

You can catch LSDREAM performing today at Lost Lands Music Festival! Listen to PEACE LOVE & WUBZ below.

Steve Aoki & Marvel Release First Collaboration – Venom vs. Carnage

DJ/Producer Steve Aoki’s fashion and record label, DIM MAK has joined forces with Marvel Entertainment for official “Marvel x Dim Mak: Venom vs. Carnage” –  a series of upcoming co-branded releases featuring iconic superheroes and supervillains of the Marvel Universe that is set to release on Friday, September 24th. The first collaboration, “Marvel x Dim Mak: Venom vs. Carnage” transports Marvel’s darker, more gruesome characters into new depths by conjoining it with the Dim Mak’s punk meets EDM ethos.

Venom, the rebel alien symbiote who was banished by his brethren on planet Klyntar and who was bonded to a Kree soldier before briefly latching himself to Spiderman, is a complicated and conflicted character barely toeing the line between good and evil.  Teetering between his desire to protect humanity versus his nature to devour humanity, Venom is our favorite anti-hero. When Venom’s malicious spawn, Carnage proves more powerful than its progenitor, Venom must temporarily team up with his arch nemesis, Spiderman to save us all.

“Everyone has a dark side and Venom truly represents the paradigm of overcoming one’s inner-demons.  When you can put your struggles aside for the betterment of others, you are a hero,“ believes Steve Aoki.

The Marvel x Dim Mak: Venom vs. Carnage drop features incredible artistry from the Marvel archives and showcases the epic battles between Venom, Carnage and Spiderman. The six-piece capsule collection includes T-shirts in black and gradient tie dye ($38-45) and Hoodies in slime green and blood red tie dyes ($75-85).

The first Marvel x Dim Mak: Venom vs. Carnage drop will be available exclusively on dimmakcollection.com and on the NTWRK App starting from Friday, September 24, 2021 in limited supplies.

Doctor P & FuntCase Unleash New Collab “Arcade Fire” Ten Years In The Making

Before every set ever was available online in some fashion, before camera phones with high quality video and audio, there existed dubplates. Dubplates were single (or very few) pressings of songs that only a select few were given the privilege of spinning live, and these were some of the tracks that fans clamored for at every single show. Nowadays, with streaming services and the constantly revolving 24-hour news cycle, many artists feel forced to continuously release new material for fans.

Still, there are some tracks that take years — or in this case, a decade — to finally see the light of day. Enter “Arcade Fire” by Doctor P and FuntCase, the “lost dubplate of 2010.”

You can immediately tell it began over a decade ago, with synth designs similar to Never Say Die or Circus Records artists of the day, like Brown & Gammon, 501, Roksonix, or Subscape.

Getting back on the road has energized both bass behemoths, their blistering b2b sets leaving venues flattened and the creative juices flowing. Itching to get back in the studio they’ve put the finishing touches on a visionary system shocker like no other – “think Mortal Kombat meets Street Fighter meets Tekken in a smoke-filled neon Akihabara arcade and you’re not even halfway there,” says the press release. (Kudos to whoever wrote that.)

Check it out below!

Research Shows Music is Infectious & Can Spread Like a Virus

New research shows that music can be infectious — like a virus — with download patterns resembling the epidemic curves for disease.

When a song hits the radio, a music streaming service like Spotify, or gets shared on a social media platform like TikTok — what happens next? Using mathematical tools typically applied to study the spread of infectious diseases, Dora Rosati and his team set out to discover more about the way music catches on.

Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the study found song download trends to be similar to the spread of an infectious disease. Dance and metal had the lowest spreadability scores. Pop music was only to be outdone by rock and hip hop — and electronica had the highest, most infectious, rating.

The research analyzed “1.4 billion individual song downloads from the now-discontinued music streaming service MixRadio. Focusing on the top 1,000 songs downloaded in the UK between 2007 and 2014, they measured how well a standard model of epidemic disease, called the SIR model, fitted trends in song downloads over time.”

Rosati, lead author on the study, shared:

With a disease, if you come into contact with someone who is ill, then you have a certain chance of catching that disease. With songs, it looks very similar. The big difference is that for songs, it doesn’t necessarily have to be physical contact – it could be that my friend used this cool new song in their Instagram story, so now I’m going to go and find it.

Dr. Thomas Rawson of Imperial College London offered this perspective:

There are probably a lot of people in a population that may already be immune to a genre like electronica, because of their existing tastes. My nan, for example, is particularly resistant to the infection of trap and dubstep.

RUFUS DU SOL Announce 4th Studio Album ‘SURRENDER’, Release ‘On My Knees’

It’s been three years since SOLACE, the last album from Grammy-nominated live-electronic trio RÜFÜS DU SOL — but that ends soon. The group just announced their fourth studio album, Surrender, and released its third single, ‘On My Knees’ on Rose Avenue and Reprise / Warner Records.

Surrender sees RÜFÜS stridently building their own world: an album written on their own terms. The band’s electronic roots offer a proud point of separation from other stadium-selling live artists, even as they write songs and play to crowds that break the traditional glass ceiling for dance acts.

James Hunt of RÜFÜS DU SOL comments on “On My Knees,” “For this song we had a lot of fun writing something that was darker, driving and a little more edgy. It’s definitely one of the most banging tracks on the record – we referenced some of our favourite club music for the drum programming and had fun envisioning the time when we could finally play this live. It had an amazing reaction at our Red Rocks shows last month which was really special for us.”

Surrender is out October 21, check out their newest single below!

Centineo Drops Emotive Lyric Video To Sensational Single “Believe Again” [Video]

A chart-topping producer and globally recognized singer/songwriter, New Jersey born and Florida native Tim Centineo, aka Centineo, made a name for himself after a string of largely successful independent productions in 2016, followed by a massive Beatport hit, “Charge” in 2017. Dominating the main stages and airwaves, through support of world-renowned channels like Sirius XM’s Electric Area & BPM/Diplo’s Revolution Radio, his uplifting and euphoric style caught the attention of industry titans David Guetta, Hardwell, and many more culminating in the release of Centineo’s 2018 single, Othersideon Hardwell’s flagship label Revealed Recordings.

Centineo always pushes the limits of sound and creativity with each single, and his latest “Believe Again” is no exception. To accompany the single he also released a captivating video that delivers a gripping, meaningful adventure all of which was independently crafted by him alone. It is incredibly creative, featuring a montage of film clips of him at different points of his life, from a baby to now. The editing is spectacular and paired with the song gives the video this magical, Tomorrowland-esque feel.

Centineo is truly doing some amazing work, check out the lyric video for “Believe Again” below!
