Tomorrowland Rollercoaster ‘Ride To Happiness’ Wins Best New Rollercoaster in Europe

In addition to two world class festivals, a successful radio brand, and their own artist management wing, Tomorrowland is also setting the bar for *checks notes* rollercoasters?

Yes, Tomorrowland has its very own rollercoaster called ‘The Ride To Happiness’ at Plopsaland De Panne in Belgium, and it just won an award presented by Kirmes Park & Revue for Best New Rollercoaster in Europe! From Plopsa’s website:

‘The Ride to Happiness by Tomorrowland’ was opened to the general public in early July and is an absolute crowd pleaser. It is the very first ‘extreme spinning coaster’ in Europe and the second attraction of this type worldwide – there was only one in the US. Visitors are catapulted no less than twice to a speed of no less than 90 km/h and go over five times. The carts rotate freely, giving visitors a different ride experience every time. The coaster has a total length of almost one kilometer and stands 35 meters above the ground at its highest point, providing an exceptional view of the park and the spacious surroundings. In addition, an exclusive soundtrack was composed that can be heard during the entire ride.

What will Tomorrowland invest in, and inevitably excel at, next?? Check out a highlight reel from the coaster in their tweet below.

Ferry Corsten’s Iconic Track “Punk” Gets a Modern Techno Update from Reinier Zonneveld

Do you ever see those memes that say something like if Austin Powers happened today, he’d go back to 1991? Yeah, sometimes you get reminded you’re old, but in a good way! That’s how I feel listening to Reinier Zonneveld’s remix of Ferry Corsten’s 2002 classic, “Punk.” Whether you’re an old school raver or a new one, you probably recognize the synth chords from Ferry’s first release under his own name. Now the track gets a modern techno update from one of the genre’s hottest artists.

As I mentioned, the synth chords are definitely the iconic part of the track, and amazingly, Zonneveld keeps that part of the tune intact. All of the rest of the remix is distinctly Zonneveld’s. From the pounding and progressive percussion in the background, the droning synths, and heavy-hitting bassline, this track is made for the after-hours. Here’s what each artist had to say about this official remix.

“It’s great to see that this track is still rocking it in whatever form you shape it. Reinier gave it his signature techno makeover and it rocks any floor you throw it at. I’m very happy with what he has done.” – FC

“It’s a big honor that Ferry Corsten asked me to remix ‘Punk.’ I’ve been playing this remix in my live sets for the past couple of months and it has been a guaranteed dance floor bomb. I’m super excited that it is finally out there!” – RZ

Check out Reinier Zonneveld’s remix of Ferry Corsten’s “Punk” out now on Flashover/Armada. Check out the video of the original to get an idea of how far dance music has progressed over the past two decades. It was a different world back then!

R3HAB Teams Up with Jonas Blue for Catchy New Single “Sad Boy”

R3HAB is back with the second single off his upcoming studio album, “Sad Boy,” and it is catchy as all hell! This time the veteran producer teams up with UK producer Jonas Blue for a super-tight track that you can sing along too on the radio, or vibe with in the club. Along with stellar vocal performances from Ava Max and Kylie Cantrall, “Sad Boy” is a song you will have on repeat.

The song opens with some light instrumentation and some la la las before the vocals take front-and-center. The cadence and rhythm are trademark R3HAB. After the verse, the track builds into the drop with the catchy vocal refrain on top. The drop hits just right with a thumping bassline, those earworm vocals, and enough percussion to keep the groove going. Here’s what R3HAB had to say about this massive collaboration.

“This is one of those records where the pieces fell into place quickly. Ava and I connected when I remixed ‘EveryTime I Cry’ a few months ago. I heard the idea for ‘Sad Boy’ and knew I had to make the record. Her voice is powerful and bold and a pleasure to work with. I’m glad for the opportunity to create with Jonas, as we’ve only remixed each others’ work but haven’t collaborated. He brings an uplifting and fresh direction to every record. It’s been great working with Kylie as well, looking forward to seeing her artistic journey take off.”

Check out the latest from R3HAB & Jonas Blue, “Sad Boy” featuring Ava Max and Kylie Cantrall. Stay tuned for more news on R3HAB’s upcoming album too! Make sure to check out the Club and VIP remixes of “Sad Boy” as well. The VIP remix is particularly groovy!

1001Tracklists Reveals “Top 101 Producers” For 2021

Every year since 2016, 1001Tracklists has put out a list of the Top 101 Producers for the year. Unlike DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list, which is essentially a popularity contest based on fan votes, the Top 101 Producers list is based on rote data that culls set lists for how many times a producer’s tracks are played out.

Of course there is still room for error with this system, as the set lists themselves are user-submitted (albeit independently verified) and not every set ever will get entered into 1001Tracklists’ system. But based on the data available, it’s a very different list.

Vintage Culture tops this year’s list, moving up 32 places, with a staggering 1,585 unique instances of DJ support. The rest of the top 5 is rounded out by David Guetta, Kryder, Armin van Buuren, and new entry John Summit whose song “Deep End” catapulted him to the top of the list with over 1,000 instances of unique support.

This ranking reflects the cumulative amount of unique DJ support for tracks played from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. A unique DJ support is one artist supporting a single track.

If three artists each play a track once, this counts as three unique DJ supports.
If one artist plays a track three times, this counts as one unique DJ support.
If one artist plays two of your tracks, this counts as one point per track, so two unique DJ supports.

View the detailed ranking breakdown here.

Marc Straight Releases New Melodic, Vocal-Driven Single, “Empathy” ft. Yuki

Following his last single “see you” with internet personality, musician and voice actress LilyPichu, Marc Straight continues the rollout toward his album with a new single, “Empathy” featuring Yuki.

Doubling down on his love of Japanese culture, Yuki passionately sings the verses in Japanese while the chorus is in English, giving the song an almost mysterious tone — at least for those who don’t understand Japanese. Vocals are as much an instrument in music as they are important in conveying a message through lyrics, so when you don’t understand what’s being said, that instrumental quality is amplified.

Beyond the vocals from Yuki, the production is melancholy and rich, expressing a deep sadness. Even still, the shimmering synths and beautiful vocals set themselves apart from the lower tones of the bass, expressing the possibility of hope in the face of everything else.
