Decadence NYE Drops Lineup With Rezz, Zedd, DJ Snake, & More

After a year long hiatus, the gates of Decadence will reopen this December 30th and 31st to ring in the New Year once more with zoens of incredible artists joining from across the country at the Colorado Convention Center. Featuring larger than life production across multiple stages, a wide variety of genres and styles and more, we can’t wait to return to ring in another new year.

This year’s lineup looks like a “Who can we get? Yes.” scenario in the best way. As a music market, Denver is quite selective with their performers but with the wide range of artists booked to perform over two days, there shouldn’t be any reason you can’t see exactly who you want.

Between the likes of Adventure Club b2b Bear Grillz, Marauda, and Eptic, The Chainsmokers, Alan Walker, and Zedd, Zhu, Louis The Child, and Alesso, and more, there’s plenty of options when you think of who to see. The only risk, as always, is waiting to see the set times and possible conflicts.

But, surely, fans will cross that bridge when it comes time. For now, tickets are now available at DecadenceNYE.com!

ISOxo Played Out Unreleased G Jones Collab At Debut Brownies & Lemonade Show In LA

Brownies & Lemonade have been throwing shows for years, many of them iconic performances with some of the biggest and most influential artists in dance music. And many of those shows have been debut headline performances as well, giving a platform to rising talent that have gone on to do incredible things in the space. This past Saturday was one of those shows: ISOxo.

I could honestly go on and on about the energy in that room and the fact of how there wasn’t a single moment of dead space in that set, bringing out Flosstradamus, knock2, RL Grime, and FrostTop for their set, but that’s an event review for another day. During the banner of a set, ISOxo also got on the mic and announced he was about to play an unreleased collaboration with none other than G Jones.

Having already sufficiently blown minds for about ten minutes, ISOxo immediately cemented himself as a force to be reckoned with when he dropped this absolute banger. Back in 2019, we included him in our Artists To Watch in 2020 list — unfortunately, we all know how last year turned out. Still, there’s so much more to come and he’s having no issue making up for lost time.

Check out the video below!

oh shit, secret’s out! i made a banger with @ISOxo_ , here he is leveling LA with it last night https://t.co/BeyWEy7Oo8

AREA21’s Debut Album To Be Titled ‘Greatest Hits Volume 1,’ Release New Single

The title of the debut album from AREA21 has been revealed — Greatest Hits Volume 1, due out November 12. The duo of Martin Garrix and Maejor has released 13 tracks to-date, including yesterday’s new single, “Own The Night.” The tracklist for the album will be revealed soon, but based solely on the title, we can safely assume that it will include their latest singles with updated track art (noticeable on Spotify), as well as possibly some of their earliest tracks? We’ll have to wait and see.

As for “Own The Night,” it’s come with a new music video, the latest in a series of music and visual releases detailing the adventures of alien travelers, M & M. The alien duo have found their way to Hollywood and, as portrayed in the video, are struck by the many masks that humans put on to conform to society’s norm. The track is incredibly catchy, but also carries a sense of social awareness, which is exactly what AREA21 are trying to transmit through their music.

The CD pre-sale link for the album is now live at AREA21’s official merch store HERE. Check out the video for “Own The Night” below.

SVDDEN DEATH Unleashes Immaculate Banger “Transmutation Sequence” [LISTEN]

SVDDEN DEATH has an immaculate banger on his hands as his first release in a year and a half arrives in full force!

“Transmutation Sequence” marks the first single off SVDDEN DEATH’s highly anticipated VOYD Vol. 2 collection. Melding captivating melodies with overtly aggressive basslines, the producer sets a fierce tone for what can be expected from his impending body of work.

Plagued by a deadly, distorted sequence of sounds, the production thrives off the tension it builds within the confines of a haunted atmosphere. With little warning, the track quickly builds and drops into a massive dubstep stomper with bright, metallic synths that cut through like knives.

SVDDEN DEATH brings it back and doubles down on theatrics for a masterful second drop. And with that — to simply say “Transmutation Sequence” was well worth the wait would be an understatement.

Listen here!

Opinion: Let’s Have A Talk About Kygo

When Kygo burst onto the scene in 2013-2014, tropical house was everything. Names like Thomas Jack, Robin Schulz, Felix Jaehn, Sam Feldt, Bakermat, and Matoma similarly rode the wave, but Kygo, with his brilliant melodies and ear for remix-worthy anthems, gained an early edge and has gone on to become a worldwide star with over 27 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He released his critically-acclaimed debut album, Cloud Nine, in 2016 with features from John Legend, James Vincent McMorrow, Maty Noyes, and Julia Michaels, among others.

He’s played some of the biggest venues in the world, including the Hollywood Bowl and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the Ullevaal Stadion in his native Norway, and of course Coachella. He was the fastest artist to reach one billion total plays on Spotify in 2015 — no one can deny his magnetism and talent.

All of this is to say, he has every right to put out literally anything he wants. But it’s been eight years and he has hardly evolved beyond that pretty melody and vocalist paradigm. And it’s getting kind of boring.

He has a new song out today with X Ambassadors, “Undeniable,” and it follows that exact formula. Some pretty melody, his little reverb vocal effects, some soft drums, that recognizable piano, and vocals from a pop star. That’s not to say that the song isn’t inherently good or well written, or even that it’s poorly produced.

Kygo says, “Sam and I had so much fun writing this one together in LA then performing it last month at Banc of California Stadium. It’s a special song to us and I hope everyone likes “Undeniable” as much as we do.”

X Ambassadors lead singer/songwriter Sam Nelson Harris says, “I’ve always had an affinity for big-ass love songs but don’t often end up writing them. This one came together so organically and quickly— it was such a treat to write it with Kash, Nick, Whethan and Kyrre. I honestly couldn’t be more excited to sing it at all my friends weddings.”

Clearly, both artists found joy in writing and creating the song together, and they’re proud of their work. As a listener, I would never deign to impose my own will on an artist’s creativity. We’ve seen the same arguments made for Skrillex, Zedd, Porter Robinson, and others who have changed their sound, sometimes, perhaps, to the chagrin of fans. (This is not a comparison of Kygo’s stagnation to the others’ evolvement, merely pointing out fan reactions to what an artist wants to make.)

The difference between those examples and Kygo is that those other artists have evolved through new sounds, but they still sound like themselves. A couple perfect example of artists evolving and retaining the same sound are Flume and RL Grime. Both have an “undeniable,” to usurp the title from Kygo’s latest single, sound but have evolved and grown over time.

Yet, Kygo has remained complacent, putting out the same melodic, vocal ballads for years. And look, they’re working for him. He has been able to “resurrect” Donna Summer and Whitney Houston, and cover a classic from Tina Turner (which brings into discussion the topic of capitalizing off the back of black women’s work, but that’s for another time), has a 1.1bn play song with Selena Gomez, and multiple other hundred-million play songs. So clearly, fans enjoy his work.

But isn’t there something more beyond the usual? The familiar? The tried and true?

Before I began writing this article, I wanted to challenge my own confirmation bias. I listened to his last two dozen or so singles. Some have variations in tempo, like “Think About You” with Valerie Broussard; “Kem Kan Eg Ringe” with Store P and Lars Vaular is a notable outlier. But even as he’s teamed up with the likes of Miguel, Imagine Dragons, U2, Ellie Goulding, and OneRepublic, names that on their own sell out arenas, the result remains a predictable brand of ballad that he’s become known for.

Of course, I’m not naïve enough to believe that reactions to this opinion couldn’t be boiled down to, “Well if you think he’s boring, then don’t listen to him.” And that’s valid. But I also believe that Kygo is incredibly talented, and after seven years of doing this job and cultivating talent, I can’t help but mourn when I feel talent is squandered.

ILLENIUM & Thirty Seconds To Mars Team Up For New Single, “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”

ILLENIUM is a groundbreaking artist, there’s no denying that. From selling out the debut show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to over 60,000 fans, releasing four albums and becoming a household dance music name, and more, he’s proven himself time and again to be a force to be reckoned with. But no one could have predicted that, of all things, ILLENIUM would be the one to bring Thirty Seconds To Mars out of a three-year music release drought.

“Wouldn’t Change A Thing” is out today, setting the stage for the Deluxe Edition of ILLENIUM’s fourth full-length album, Fallen Embers, on October 22. It’s also the first new music from Thirty Seconds To Mars in three years, since 2018’s AMERICA.

The song is pure vibes, with recognizable melodies and structure, built with impeccable vocals from Jared Leto and Shannon Leto’s drums. Check it out below and pre-save the Deluxe Edition of Fallen Embers now for a chance to win a signed jersey: here

Elon Musk Actually Threw A 9,000-Person Rave At Tesla GigaBerlin Factory Opening

Over a year ago, Elon Musk teased an “indoor/outdoor rave space” on the roof of Tesla’s new Giga Berlin factory in Germany. Well, the factory is now open and the mad man actually made good on his promise.

Well, production inside the factory hasn’t started, and the rave may have not actually been on the roof, but we’ll take it. (We’re also using the term “rave” here very loosely.) The GigaBerlin “County Fair,” as resident Tobias Lindh calls it, invited 9,000 local residents of Berlin and Brandenburg to come and become familiar with the Tesla factory.

Boris Brejcha performed at the event, which also appeared to feature plenty of attractions like a ferris wheel, a Tesla coil (because, of course), food stands, and more.

Take a look at the festivities below!

Coachella Updates Vaccine Mandate, Will Allow Negative COVID Tests For Entry

COVID policies at festivals vary from promoter to promoter, event to event, city to city. Some require vaccinations, as in the new Los Angeles mandate, others require either proof of a negative test or vaccinations, others only require a negative test, others still don’t have any requirements at all. In the case of Goldenvoice events Coachella and Stagecoach, they originally required vaccinations to enter their events this coming year.

Now, according to their own policies, they are reversing that decision and allowing negative Covid tests, as well.

“After seeing first-hand the low transmission data and successful implementation of safety protocols at our other festivals this past month,” Coachella wrote, “we feel confident that we can update our health policy to allow for: Negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event OR proof of full vaccination.”

This could still change again ahead of next April, six months away, of course. The Covid situation has been in a constant state of flux since a global pandemic was declared a year and a half ago, so we’ll have to keep an eye on how things develop.
