Armin van Buuren hits Chicago Bulls’ NBA home game with surprise guest performance

Yesterday, fans of the Chicago Bulls pinched themselves a few times when Armin van Buuren suddenly graced their team’s NBA game with a huge guest performance. It shook the stadium in both unmistakable magnitude and surprise impact, but the fact that Armin van Buuren dropped by seemingly unannounced does become less unexpected when you factor in one of his latest tracks, “Sirius.” Attentive listeners of Armin van Buuren’s recent collab with Canadian artist AVIRA may have noticed that the track is a rework of the The Alan Parsons Project’s iconic track of the same name, which was the anthem of the Chicago Bulls in the ‘90s. And that led to the five-time #1 DJ playing the single live during the Chicago Bulls’ home game against the New York Knicks at the United Center.

“Sirius,” the guitar parts of which were rerecorded by Armin van Buuren’s brother Eller, naturally took center stage in the Dutchman’s performance, but it wasn’t the only track that supercharged the venue’s ambiance. The Grammy-nominated DJ and producer also played his globally renowned hit ‘Blah Blah Blah’ and his recent collab with The Stickmen Project called ‘No Fun’, which got released on Amsterdam-, New York and London-based record label Armada Music past Friday.

“Last night felt like a childhood dream come true, as I’ve been a longtime fan and also followed the recent Netflix series about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls”, Armin van Buuren says. “It was a great honor to do a special halftime show and I’m still buzzing from the performance.”

Manila Killa & San Holo Team Up With Nick Lopez On Dreamy New Single, “Mean It”

San Holo and Manilla Killa drop the bittersweet “Mean It” ft. Nick Lopez, out now via bitbird/Moving Castle/Counter Records. The song follows a broken hearted lover trying to navigate the brave new world independently and acts as a microcosm for the artists involved both sonically and lyrically. The song came to fruition over the pandemic and was inspired by the distances it created in everyone’s lives, coping with loss, and intimacy.

“Mean It” is such a special song because it represents the intertwining of several people’s worlds. San came over to my house one day to shoot some content for our upcoming show which was supposed to happen in March of 2020, but the world shut down soon after his visit. Kwon and singer / songwriter Nick Lopez were also present in the house and we all started talking, San started playing guitar and we began messing around on Ableton. By the end of the day we all knew we had something special with this song – and it took a life of its own as we continually worked on it over the course of the next year. It’s a song about coping with loss and intimacy which captures the essence of all of our songwriting styles and I feel like it’s a connection that people will understand while listening to it.” – Manila Killa

“Mean It” is one of those songs that came out of nowhere. I started noodling on guitar and the next thing you know we had the idea for the song. It took me coming back to LA earlier this year to finally be able to finish it off everybody. But I’m excited to finally be releasing this one alongside my show at Bill Graham with Manila Killa! – San Holo

The song is San’s first release following his latest album bb u ok? album that came earlier this year and while the single is a stand-alone release, San had lots more coming on the horizon. Listen below.

Moore Kismet Releases Their Next Album Single, & Final Single Of The Year, “Call Of The Unicorn” w/ Tasha Baxter

It’s been a stellar year for young prodigy Moore Kismet. Becoming the youngest-ever to perform at both Lollapalooza and EDC Las Vegas, not to mention how many other events they’ve played where the same could likely be said, they’ve also put out a huge assortment of singles throughout the year. This includes “Rumor” with WYN, “Vendetta For Cupid” with TYGKO, and a bucket list remix for Tate McRae.

Now, nearing the end of the year, their final single of 2021 has dropped, “Call Of The Unicorn” with Tasha Baxter. It’s also the next single from their long-anticipated debut album.

“‘Call of the Unicorn’ originally started out as a sound design experimentation session, but ended up becoming something so much bigger. When I started flushing out the full arrangement, I realize that I wanted this song to have an anthemic feel. Not too much going on, but still enough to draw a listener into the song,” Moore Kismet explains. “Tasha Baxter is a songwriter and vocalist that I have admired since I was a little kid. When we first met, the only thing we can talk about is how much music meant to us. I sent her the original demo of COTU, and within days, she came back to me with a vocal cut. We want people to feel powerful, beautiful, and strong when they listen to this song. It’s how it makes us feel, and we hope that message spreads to everyone who hears it.”

The release comes with an official lyric video out on Proximity. Check it out below and stay tuned for next year when UNIVERSE finally releases!

GRiZ & Subtronics Team Up Once Again For Explosive “Griztronics II (Another Level)”

There’s very little that I could say about “Griztronics II,” the follow-up collaboration to 2019’s smash hit from GRiZ and Subtronics, that would add anything remotely supplementary to the history or power behind the track. But for the sake of argument, and, to a lesser degree, my job, let’s go ahead and say I tried.

The magic of “ooh this shit be hittin’ different” and the original build are absent from the follow up, in their place instead unbridled dubstep ferocity.

Subtronics says, “‘GRIZTRONICS II’ is a two year long journey in the making, which is technically the fourth song we have made together, but it really hits a music production/engineering sweet-spot for me. Working with Grant is always an honor and so much fun. He has an insane ear for ingenious new ideas and I am constantly pushed by him creatively.”

Kavinsky Returns With New Music After Nearly Nine Years For “Renegade” with Cautious Clay

It’s been nearly nine years since Kavinsky released his debut album, OutRun, featuring his smash hit, “Nightcall.” Since then, the producer has remained enigmatic though not necessarily elusive. A steady social media presence has kept hope alive that he would one day return and, to be corny, answer his own night call.

Last year, he announced a new album was on the way and today we get the first single, “Renegade” with Cautious Clay.

Greatly inspired by cinema, Kavinsky has always intertwined music and storytelling. His breakthrough hit “Nightcall” soundtracked the opening moments of the film Drive, so it’s only fitting that the official video for “Renegade” unfurls like a condensed feature film. After three criminals send him flying through the windows of a skyscraper, Kavinsky emerges with superpowers and exacts his revenge.

Alexandre Courtès (Daft Punk, U2, Jamiroquai), who directed the video, explains, “I wanted to include Kavinsky in a real movie where he is the hero. With all the love and references he and I share, we pay homage to the film craft we cherish. Kavinsky is back with a bang !…. wait, no actually it’s three bangs.”

Check out the track and video below! No date has yet been given for the release of the full albumReborn, but an educated guess places its arrival next year.
