Hardwell Returns To Ultra, Announces New Album + World Tour

Nearly ten years on from when he performed one of the most electrifying performances at perhaps one of
the most influential electronic music events in history, Hardwell returned to the stage at Ultra Music Festival to make history with arguably the most anticipated return show of 2022.

In Autumn 2018, after more than a decade of playing the biggest festivals on the planet, Hardwell announced he would be taking a sabbatical from touring. So his emphatic return on Sunday night, his first official show since his concert with the Metropole Orkest Symphony at the Ziggo Dome back in October 2018, was unsurprisingly a moment for the history books. Playing a “surprise set” on the main stage (though most were able to surmise it was him), closing out the festival’s weekend, the 150,000 capacity crowd excitedly greeted Hardwell’s return. Whereas online, his performance also broke Ultra’s numbers via the live stream, with fans tuning in from around the globe, all eager to watch Hardwell’s first official live set in some 3.5 years.

Revealing a new show and new sound, alongside announcing a 24-date world tour supporting his new artist album, Rebels Never Die, Hardwell used his headline slot at Ultra over the weekend to mark a new era in his career. This momentous occasion during Ultra not only served as Hardwell’s first show back but a chance for him to ignite the attention of fans worldwide. Always a leader, with a quest to evolve, not repeat. Hardwell’s new 14-track solo album, released on his label Revealed Recordings, represents a critical point in the musical shift for one of electronic music’s biggest known stars.

The brand new Rebels Never Die world tour is a large-scale production concept that will give fans a unique multi-dimensional experience to witness Hardwell perform live back on stage. Throughout 2022, the Rebels Never Die album tour will see Hardwell on the road with already 24 dates booked on the biggest stages across Europe, Asia, North and South America.

Claptone & Mayer Hawthorne’s “Feel This Way” Gets Superb Remix Treatment From Andhim, Gettoblaster

The enigmatic electronic-pop maestro Claptone has been all of the buzz lately. His iconic Masquerade event took place during Miami Music Week and featured a massive lineup with Claptone, LP Giobbi, James Hype, Ferrick Dawn, and the legend Fatboy Slim who all left the instagram story feeds saturated with their dazzling sets.

He just completed his highly anticipated B2B with Brazilian tech house star Vintage Culture that rocked Ultra Music Festival’s main stage. Through all of this excitement, he recently tapped Chicago/Detroit duo Gettoblaster along with German duo Andhim to each deliver what are exceptional remixes to his collaboration with Mayer Hawthorne, “Feel This Way“, off of his ‘Closer album.

Andhim kicks things off with an insatiably groovy club-pop remix, bubbling with bright melodies and a rumbling bass line. They seamlessly infuse their own sound while still keeping the greatness of the original in tact.

Gettoblaster follows with an explosive remix that showcases their Chicago and Detroit underground roots, flipping the original what is a superb, jackin’ remix. Claptone also adds his own dub mix to cap off the EP that is yet another fantastic interpretation of the original.

The first time I asked Andhim for a remix was around 2015 for a track on my first album ‘Charmer’ and I’ve been asking and pushing them ever since. I love their productions and their music. I’m very happy that they said yes to remix ‘Feel this Way’. On the other end of the spectrum I share the same love for the ruff grooves of Gettoblaster and their powerful bass infused style. What they delivered for a remix blew me away, it’s a staple in my DJ sets recently. Having both remixes on the release to me is a perfect combination and it shows where I can go in my own sets when I play these out.” – Claptone

ILLENIUM Premiered A Heavy, Unreleased Banger On Ultra’s Main Stage For Headlining Set

Apart from remixing his own “Blame Myself” with Virtual Riot on the Fallen Embers deluxe album, it’s been quite a while since we’ve had an original heavy banger from ILLENIUM. The last few all saw him teaming up with Excision for “In My Mind,” “Feel Something,” “Gold (Stupid Love).”

Last night as he closed out the Ultra main stage for the first time, he dropped a brand new, unreleased banger that reminds us for all the pop and love songs he puts out, he can still go incredibly hard. The song is with Spiritbox and is allegedly called “Shivering.”

Check it out below before you hunker down for the last day of the live stream later today!

ULTRA 2022 CONTINUES: Watch The Day 2 Live Stream Here

The first day of Ultra kicked off yesterday and kept fans busy the whole day with a variety of stages and flavors of music to choose from. For those of us at home, approximately eight hours of live stream footage kept us glued to our device of choice while Ookay, Sullivan King, Timmy Trumpet, SVDDEN DEATH presents VOYD, Martin Garrix, Pendulum, and more shook our speakers.

Day two begins today with Mykris on the live stream, followed by a lot of really, really short sets between 10 to 30 minutes. The longest set we get all day doesn’t start until 8:35PM EDT when Afrojack comes on the main stage, followed by ILLENIUM headlining for the first time at 10:45PM EDT.

Slushii gets 15 minutes; Tchami gets 30 minutes; Tiësto, at least, gets 45. Sadly, even Madeon will only get 15 minutes of screen time and DJ Snake will only get 30 himself.

Watch below and scroll down for the full schedule.

Kygo Switches Things Up For Debut Headline Set At Ultra Music Festival

Five months ago, Kygo released a new song, “Undeniable” with X Ambassadors. It was okay. But I had some thoughts — read here.

Now, in March 2022, Kygo just headlined the Ultra Music Festival main stage for the first time and I think I can confidently say it’s not what anyone expected. It was dark, it was vibey, it was fun and fresh. It was not the Kygo we’ve known who would play piano (though he did bring it out eventually) and keep the vibes relatively low key.

Of course, there’s something to be said about this not being a typical tour set, especially when you’re headlining the main stage at a festival that typically expects a certain sound. Regardless, most artists wouldn’t simply compromise their sound to this extent for one show unless explicitly billed (think “DNB Set” from house/dubstep artists).

We still have yet to see if this sound translates to his next releases, or even other live sets. But for one night, Kygo completely took our breath away and we’re still listening to it the next morning.

Krill Bill, The Hottest DJ Duo Taking Over The Metaverse

This week marked the debut release of “Chopper,” the debut single from the hottest whales in the metaverse- DJ duo Krill Bill. When DJ Dale the Whale and Willy Freeze met in Alaska at a young age, they knew their friendship would take them far and wide, but no one imagined the two would be taking over the metaverse party scene at such an unprecedented pace.

Krill Bill’s debut single “Chopper” is the result of long days and nights at the beach sipping wine and making beats — in their underwater studio, of course.

Part of a larger community of like-minded individuals, the Catalina Whales, Krill Bill is in the running to form a whale supergroup with the goal of making global party records and touring the world.

Get your swimsuit on, pour up a glass of wine, and turn on “Chopper” by Krill Bill below.

YourEDM Premiere: Hyper, Jack Trammel & Sam Matlock Give Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ A Brilliantly Brutal Facelift

A triad of talent has aligned to create an epic cover of an iconic song, Hyper, Jack Trammel, and Sam Matlock (of Wargasm) have all joined forces to render something that does justice to the original while bringing a balance to all 3 of their styles under one production. Out via Position Music, this tune is an absolute banger all things considered and fits to many moods

On the one hand, the structure of the release fits with bass music culture, yet the vocal work fixates on a vibe that is much more hardcore rock / punk-rock. Yet, all of these genres are heavy, so it makes sense that they would have the natural synergy to gel, which is exactly what is happening on this release.

Hyper is certainly the guy who is bringing in the rock/punk-vibe onto this release. He’s been a huge fan of grunge and various rock/heavy rock genres growing up, being from Seattle himself (home of Nirvana.) He has collaborations with artists like The Crystal Method and Iggy Pop, huge, globally known names in all of music and especially in their respective scenes. Hyper injects this know-how in a sophisticated and brilliant way with this cover.

Jack Trammell is big in the video game and film trailer world and probably had a big role in designing the mood and direction of this release. It certainly has a cinematic feel to it, it being easy to imagine the type of song in something like a box office trailer.

Sam Matlock handles the structure on the guitar and vocal front and does so with grace and enthusiasm. The dude has an interesting background and career to say the least, he’s a member of the successful band Wargasm and also son of the bassist Glen Matlock – who was in The Sex Pistols – so a ton of cultural context with this guy and a great inclusion on a collaboration such as this.

An optimal meeting of the minds has occurred with “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” – Hyper, Jack Trammel & Sam Matlock are a force to be reckoned with.

Swerve Collective Creations Reveal New ‘Swerve Miami Sampler ’22’ EP

Whether showcasing music from founder Sean Danielczyk (Seanyy), or other talented artists, Swerve Collective Creations is a collective of labels, and a recently-launched Swerve Radio station. Giving up-and-coming artists the chance to shine, Swerve Collective Creations has already been receiving buzz from the electronic dance music (EDM) community.

Dropping just in time for Miami Music Week 2022 and the start of festival season comes the release of a highly-anticipated new EP, the ‘Swerve Miami Sampler ‘22’. Aitor Hertz kicks things off with a thundering dance track title “Come With Me” boasting hypnotic vocal samples and an infectious groove. “Let Me Be” follows as Bonkr takes things a little deeper, with a blissful tune that seems like the perfect pair to a Miami pool party.

Djobo and Hedclem come together for their euphoric single “Thinking About You“, so reminiscent of the glory prog house days and still sounds fresh to the ears. It feels like an anthem through and through. Jake & Alvar wrap up the EP with “Don’t Tell Me – That You’re Leaving“, a progressive track that will elevate listeners from the start with its stunning melodies, propelling vocals, and goosebumps-inducing drops.

All in all, the ‘Swerve Miami Sampler ‘22’ EP is a fantastic collage of 4 songs from a slew of incredibly talented artists. Listen for yourself below!
