New York Venues Can Operate at 100% Cap With Fully Vaccinated Attendees

New York venues are able to return to 100% capacity, as long as attendees are fully vaccinated.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement on Wednesday as the state has seen a steady decline in COVID-19 cases. The government continues to lift coronavirus-related restrictions for businesses including museums, theaters, gyms, retail and food service.

“It works for the venue, it also works for the public because it’s another incentive to get vaccinated,” Cuomo stated. “Having a vaccine allows you to participate in those venues that go to 100% fully vaccinated.”

Some venues also have the option to host 50% vaccinated and 50% unvaccinated people. However, that puts a limit on the amount of attendees allowed into stadiums, arenas, and other spaces. In these instances, the unvaccinated section requires empty seats between each person or party.

Residential gatherings have been bumped up to 50 people, while indoor catered gatherings can host up to 250 people or 500 fully vaccinated people.

At the time of this writing, 52.5% of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccination and 44.6% are fully vaccinated. See the numbers here.

Ultra Music Festival Reaches Agreement with Miami’s Downtown Neighbors Alliance

After years of conflict, Ultra Music Festival has finally reached an agreement with downtown Miami residents.

According to local publication Miami Herald, festival organizers and the Downtown Neighbors Alliance have settled their tensions. Per an announcement on Tuesday, the group will no longer be taking action to boot Ultra out of its longtime home in Bayfront Park.

Ultra spokesman Ray Martinez revealed to the Miami Herald:

This development finally opens the door to establishing an ongoing working relationship between the parties, which was long overdue. Ultra’s leadership was privileged to work closely with local residents in striking the balance between accommodating local residential lifestyles and hosting large-scale and state-of-the art music productions in Miami’s urban core.

In 2018, the Miami City Commission of Planning and Zoning decided by unanimous vote to deny the contract for Ultra Music Festival to remain at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami — here’s a refresher. Then, in 2019, Ultra’s move to Virginia Key didn’t go over so well logistically.

Ultra was more than ready to return to Bayfront Park in 2020, although neighbors were still fighting against it. However, the COVID-19 pandemic took over and ultimately forced its cancellation.

Ultra Music Festival is officially scheduled for March 25 – 27, 2022 at Bayfront Park.

Your EDM Premiere: Rene LaVice’s New Single With Ayah Marar Promises the ‘Good Life’ [Device]

If one wanted to define “summer feel-good anthem” as literally as possible, Rene LaVice’s newest single off his rapidly growing Device imprint with vocalist Ayah Marar would have to be it. Fun, soulful and just the right amount of pop, “Good Life” is definitely looking forward to raves being back on the schedule and in full swing.

There’s an introspective vein to this track as well, thanks to Marar’s lyrics. In the last decade, Ahah Marar has become known for her vocals, working with big names like Calvin Harris, Camo & Krooked and DJ Fresh, among others. Her vocals have a great balance of pop cachet, soulful timbre and thoughtful verse and add dimension to any track the contributes to. With “Good Life,” Marar and LaVice examine what’s really important in life, which is something almost anyone can relate to after 2020. And what is important, according to Marar’s lyrics? Living a life of joy without fear of judgement.

As the tone of “Good Life” is certainly joyful with classic rave piano harmonies and a fun but complex synth that carries the melody when Marar isn’t singing, the lyric spurn listeners on to really let go and enjoy the ride. There’s also a signal of hope: thoughts and life may not always be sunny but if we can remember it’s temporary and continue forward while enjoying the present, the “good life” is still worth living.

Structure-and-style-wise, some might call “Good Life” a crossover piece but it’s set and syncopated more like a classic D&B bop, with the snares ruling the landscape and driving the track, even in the face of such a catchy melody. It’s a crossover track with it’s footing still planted solidly in drum & bass in a way few other than RLV can pull off.

Artists have really been the cornerstone of keeping up morale since COVID swept the planet, and we genuinely should thank them  for all the help and love. When a track like “Good Life” comes out as the clouds are finally parting, the call to enjoy life, remember what’s important and rave tf on is one way we can express that thanks. Support your artists and promoters this summer in every way possible and keep living that “Good Life.”

“Good Life” drops on Device tomorrow, May 28. Pre-order/pre-save here.

Your EDM Premiere: Halftime Is Not Dead! Korsakov’s New VIP Album Proves It

It’s one of those things you don’t notice until it’s gone, or at least we at YEDM didn’t. Recently relegated to obscure soundsystem releases, re-absorbed into dubstep or punctuated by whatever the likes of Ivy Lab, Alix Perez and Tsuruda are doing, there has, in fact, been a steady if underhyped stream of halftime bangers making their way around the waves. Luckily ‘underhyped’ is never ok for the madmen at Korsakov Music, so they decided to put together a new compilation of nothing but ultra-hyped halftime bangers. Get ready for Halftimed

Out today and teased as part one in a series, the Halftimed compilation album is largely what is sounds like: artists known for their D&B prowess like Jade, MNDSCP, Smooth and Sovryn have taken their favorite Korsakov Music tracks and made halftime VIPs. It’s been an interesting process, apparently; a lot of fans think that halftime and D&B are the same. 174 divided in half is 87, after all. But these tracks are clearly not just slower versions of their originals. Jade & MNDSCP’s halftimed VIP of “Dangerous,” for example, takes on a funky, almost hip hop feel to it, while Smooth has turned his “Capacitor” original completely on its head on his halftime version, and the beat even flirts with riddim.

Every the label for throwing curveballs, Kosrakov Music has also added two original original tracks on Halftimed for its first run of the experimental compilation we all didn’t know we needed. Label darling Droptek’s track “Crikey” is ravey, melodic in places and conjures the spirit of festival halftime, big time. Also on the original tip and our premiere today, Madster, whose other original track on Korsakov “Blunderbuss” was already halftime, also opted to create a new original in “Amygdala.”

Named after the fear center of the brain, “Amygdala” is not meant to give said fear center a calming response. A heavy, classic halftime chugger with a grinding bass and punctuated by as many creepy horror samples as one can jam into a staff, “Amygdala” is a reminder of why halftime got so big in the first place: bold, creepy and excellent rave fodder whether mixed with other genres or part of a filthy, all-halftime set, Madster is not about to let us forget this little gem of a subgenre, and neither are Korsakov.

As raves and festies return, it’s likely that halftime will soon reclaim its headlining spot as a welcome respite from faster fare. In the meantime, Korsakov Music is setting fans up for what’s to come with Halftimed basically being an epic set on its own. Whether cut in half from drum & bass or built from scratch, we’re definitely glad that halftime’s back.

Halftimed is out now on Korsakov music, with a special edition available on Beatport that invludes all the original D&B tunes and the VIPs. Click here to stream or buy.

David Guetta & Morten Tease Their Next Big Collab, “Impossible” ft. John Martin

David Guetta and Morten are joining forces once again, bringing Future Rave energy into 2021.

“Impossible” featuring John Martin is due out next Friday on Musical Freedom Records. Going off the album art and the status of artists involved, it’s going to be massive.

The dynamic duo have delivered their musical chemistry on a number of productions, best heard on their 4-track New Rave EP. With a mix of inspiration from EDM, techno, and trance, the two have cultivated a sound that’s part main stage, part underground.

Guetta previously shared of the New Rave EP:

We wanted to make quality dance music with zero compromise and give a lot of attention to finding new sonics. We wanted to make music people have never heard before. Almost one year later and many producers started to make music in the same style, our music is becoming a movement and djs call it future rave.

Prior to the EP release, they unleashed “Make It To Heaven” and an Avicii tribute remix for “Heaven.” After the EP, they kept the music flowing with “Save My Life” and famously remixed Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” for the dance floor.

See below and get excited for more David Guetta x Morten.

Dimitri Vegas Lands First Lead Role in a Feature Film

Beyond being named the #1 DJ in the world twice and staying in the top 2 since 2014, Dimitri Vegas has also found a passion in acting. And he’s just landed his first lead role in a feature film from Belgian director, Jonas Govaerts, in H4Z4RD.

The duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike made their acting debut in 2017 with the movie Patser, and while Like Mike hasn’t kept his presence on the silver screen, Dimitri has gone on to many other ventures. In 2019, Mortal Kombat came out with their own Dimitri Vegas skin for Sub-Zero, complete with newly voice-acted lines from the DJ; also in 2020, he joined the cast of Jurassic World: Dominion.

H4Z4RD is billed as as an action comedy.

“It’s about a simple ‘job’ gone wrong turned into a nerve-wrecking race against the clock,” says Thivaios of H4Z4RD. “It’s an intense script entirely rendered from the point of view of the main character’s car, so that makes it a pretty unique and challenging concept.”

Shooting begins this June so expect to see it out in 2022!

Tchami Reveals Forthcoming ‘Year Zero’ Remix Album, First Song Out Friday

Tchami unleashed his much anticipated and critically acclaimed debut album Year Zero in 2020 — and in 2021, it’s getting remixed.

The producer recently took to Twitter to share the news. The first Year Zero remix drops this Friday and he wants to know — “can you guess the remixer?” Several potential names have been thrown into the mix including DJ Snake, Ibranovski, and AC Slater, but all signs point to Malaa.

Days ago, Malaa posted this video to his Instagram feed sharing an unmistakeable remix of “Praise” featuring Gunna. With only seconds of the production having been shared, we can’t wait to hear the full Malaa treatment.

The album offers 16 premium Tchami cuts like “Proud,” “All On Me” featuring ZHU, and “Faith” featuring Marlena Shaw — so the possibilities of what’s to come are endless.

See the conversation below and check back Friday to hear the first of Year Zero remixed.
