Your EDM Premiere: Saxxon Released the First Ever D&B NFT Album and Now We’ve Got the Exclusive First Track – ‘Galaxias’ Incoming!

Like, lump it or Elon Musk it, NFT block chain tokens are here and making a dent in the way content is being categorized and released. Mostly relegated to visual artwork so far, the advantages that locked content provides to the individual artist can be helpful in controlling counterfeiting, they’re not beholden to labels (unless they want to be) or streaming sites (your days are numbered, Spotify) and all the revenue is filtered through the blockchain directly to the artist or content holder. No wonder it’s big business already, even if the majority of the populous hasn’t a clue.

As the possibilities for non-fungible tokens continue to be explored, some musical artists have begun to see it as a real option to track and filter their work and ensure they’re getting paid for it. Drum & bass artists have a particularly hard time with this as exploitation by streaming sites can be rampant. Some producers have basically had to make finding their royalties on sites like Spotify and Juno a second full-time job. That’s where we find artists like Saxxon taking the plunge and releasing NFT content.

When his interview with UKF about releasing his sophomore album Fractions as an NFT hit in March, it was to be the first drum & bass album to be listed and sold on NFT marketplace Opensea. The auction of the first copy, since then, has surpassed even his own expectations. With a little over a day to go, the bids on the album package, which includes the album and high-res album art, a track of the owner’s choice cut to dubplate, 10% of the album shop net sales (as a royalty), all of Saxxon’s releases free for life, and the list goes on (check here to see all the perks). It’s currently up to over $350.

There of course has been one minor problem with music as NFT, especially with a loaded auction like this: how can we hear it? Music fans and especially drum & bass heads tend to like to try before they buy and with no streaming links or even clips, really, that model now has to be adjusted and is up to the discretion of the artist. Saxxon decided early on, since the first Fractions drop was such a robust package, that he wouldn’t leak any of the album until the auction was all but sewn up. Luckily, that day has come and the single “Galaxiaas” is here in all its glory on YEDM exclusively.

Featuring PAV4N (whose hand-drawn art is part of the NFT package), “Galaxias” is a raw and rough, jungle-laced sound design masterpiece and classic Saxxon. The synths channel excellent 90s darkstep vibes while the snares drive the track and make it sound larger than live. Add PAV4N’s aggressive vox on top of it all, and you have a genuine banger. Based on “Galaxias,” Fractions promises to be worth the new model.

So what’s next for this one-of-a-kind album now that the first drop auction is almost over? Saxxon’s got the next drops all lined up and ready to go.

The second drop is also NFT will be on June 11 on XLR8R.com and there’s going to be three ways you can get that and there will be some cool things you can buy with money as well (laughs). The third drop will be coming in late June; it’s a slightly reduced tracklist. The NFTs have a 12-track list and the non-NFT has ten. There will also be an NFT package for this single.

We’re still a long way from having a fully functioning NFT market; it’s sort of like the wild west right now but artists like Saxxon think that’s a good thing. The rules are yet to be made and hopefully the environmental impact can be wrangled and streamlined proactively. Either way, it’s best to get on board now because with the current trend looking pretty unstoppable, there will likely be a time where the majority of music is released with this model or some form of it. In the meantime, keep an eye on Saxxon’s website for announcements on when Fractions goes live to the masses and, more importantly, how.

Your EDM Premiere: The Dead Daisies – Like No Other (twocolors Remix)

Released today with all the makings of a classic remix is ‘Like No Other,’ originally written and produced by rock giants The Dead Daisies. Once again they have offered up their piece of anthemic guitar work to Berlin two-piece twocolors, who are best known for an iconic remake of ‘Lovefool’ by The Cardigans – which has well over a billion streams worldwide.

Keeping the lead vocals a striking feature, the duo is able to carve out their sound with this version, adding crisp rhythmicality and a dynamic house drop to keep the melody moving. With incredible production, it seems The Dead Daisies are also stoked about this edit, sharing: “We are really happy about this remix of ‘Like No Other’! Once again remixed by our friends twocolors – this one really rocks and makes you want to dance at the same time! Check it out and enjoy – perfect for the start of the summer!

Timmy Trumpet Teams Up With ’90s Phenom Smash Mouth On New Collab, “Camelot”

While the Marshmello and Carnage collaboration today might turn some heads, Timmy Trumpet (figuratively) saw that and went, “OK, bet.” His new song with ’90s phenom and “All Star” famous Smash Mouth, “Camelot,” is also out today.

Of course, if you’ve been following Timmy lately, you’ll know this sort of collaboration isn’t entirely out of left field. Lately he’s teamed up with the likes of Scooter, Gabry Ponte, Vengaboys, Vitas, and more. That being said, getting Smash Mouth on a dance track is definitely notable.

“Camelot” might be an on-the-nose reference to their soundtrack from Shrek, but it’s never so clearly said. The song mixes Smash Mouth’s almost immediately-recognizable vocals with a bright piano rhythm and some of Timmy’s iconic trumpet. It’s fun if not all that memorable.

NGHTMRE Recruits Alexandar Smash, Ghostlo for Melodic Bass Jam “Speak Easy” [LISTEN]

NGHTMRE returns with his latest single, “Speak Easy,” with help from electronic duos Alexandar Smash and Ghostlo. The song is released with Ultra Records, a departure from releasing on NGHTMRE’s own Gud Vibrations record label.

The three-way collab results in a melodic bass song that flows seamlessly from easy listening to bass-in-your-face at the appropriate times. The song opens gently, with angelic vocals and a repeating riff that carries throughout the entire song.

The first drop is a reserved, future bass segment that creeps into into the second verse. But the second drop holds nothing back, with a hard yet melodic dubstep drop that is a refreshing change of pace from the modern dubstep we most often hear today.

The single is NGHTMRE’s third of 2021, following his March collaboration with KLAXX and a remix of Whethan’s “So Good.”

Marshmello & Carnage Team Up For Unexpected Nostalgic Rave Track, “Back In Time”

From the very first note of “Back In Time,” the new collaboration between unexpected partners Marshmello and Carnage, we’re urged to think, “Yo listen up, here’s the story / About a little guy that lives in a blue world” … and that’s exactly by design. Even the autotuned vocals, at least the notes, are sort of in that same vein.

However, once we get to the main portion of the song, we get an interesting blend of Salvatore Ganacci, Vitas, and ATC with, for lack of a better word, “bloopy” vocal chops, a bouncy rhythm, and some classic ’90s Eurodance synths.

Saying this is a unique and interesting collaboration is likely the biggest understatement of the year. And it’s certainly bound to be devisive — however, I have a feeling that it’s going to be one of those songs you’re not sure about at first but slowly but surely worms its way into your head until you can’t help but begrudgingly bounce around when it comes on. And then you shamefully rush to switch the song when your roommate comes in and asks what you’re doing.

That being said, time will tell how this once-in-a-blue-moon team up will perform.

[PREMIERE] BLVD. & Fatman Scoop Team Up For Multigenre Collab, “Miami”

Miami as a city for dance music is home to so many different genres, cultures, and influences. So that had to be what BLVD. and Fatman Scoop were thinking when they made the multigenre “Miami,” which spans dubstep, moombah, psytrance, and trap in just 3 minutes.

“Miami is a city that means the world to me. Personally, I think it’s the greatest city in the world and it often deserves more credit than it gets. I teamed up with the legendary Fatman Scoop on this record and he truly brought the energy to a track already packed with surprises. What better weekend to release this track than Memorial Day Weekend? This one’s for the crib!” – BLVD.

In honor of both artists’ favorite city, “Miami” is an ode to one of music’s most influential places, and the track truly turns up the heat by combining Fatman Scoop’s vocal hype and BLVD.’s intense musical production into a multi-genre fusion of trap, dubstep, reggaeton, and psytrance. With serrating mechanical synths and stabbing basslines, “Miami” is a welcome assault to the senses for musical fans who know how to go hard.

The release will be accompanied by a signature NFT drop on June 4 created in collaboration with Purple Fly’s visual team, which helps the artists receive direct support from fans through every purchase.

Jauz Goes BIG On Drum N Bass/Rock Fusion With Frank Zummo & We Are PIGS, “Sick” [LISTEN]

If Jauz’s 2018 debut album, The Wise and The Wicked, taught us anything, it’s that he’s capable of, and talented at, producing pretty much any genre under the sun. We haven’t heard a full-on, balls-to-the-wall drum & bass track from him yet, though… until today.

Teaming up with legendary punk drummer and songwriter, Frank Zummo, of Sum 41 fame, and (We Are) PIGS, a unique musical project founded by Esjay Jones, the trio present “Sick.” The South African artist has worked alongside hard rock behemoths such as Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, KORN’s own Brain “Head” Welch and Morgan Lander of KITTIE, and her vocals and Zummo’s energetic and highly skilled drums add immensely to this absolute heater of a track.

Starting off with a comparatively mellow intro, Jones’ voice injects a healthy dose of attitude into the mix. As the drop approaches, Zummo’s thundering drums usher in the pre-drop bridge before going into absolute mayhem. Turning the BPM all the way up to 174 with plenty of elements of rock undertones, the song is wildly exciting and never boring.

For his first real foray into the genre, Jauz has just released one of the best tearout DnB tracks of the year so far, on par with “Driver” from Pendulum or many older tracks from The Qemists or The Prodigy.

Check it out below, out now on his own label, Bite This!

AceMyth Drops Massive ‘Gods & Robots’ Mix & Self-Released Single “Break It Down” [LISTEN]

AceMyth is one of those artists that has worked the lockdown to his advantage to push his sound and brand forward. The progress is heard loud and clear in his brand new mix, Gods & Robots, as well as his latest single just unleashed today, “Break It Down.”

First up, let’s talk Gods & Robots, which AceMyth describes to be more of a “cinematic bass adventure” than a standard mix. Playing through the hour-long journey, which includes the new “Gods & Robots Theme” and a handful of AceMyth IDs and edits, we’re also treated to a range of heavy-hitting selects from Eliminate, Quix, G-Rex, Tisoki, DirtySnatcha, Computa, Super Future and many more.

AceMyth’s self-released single out now, “Break It Down,” keeps the energy going with classic rave synths and relentless drops. The Detroit-based producer’s signature dark and aggressive spin on bass music results in a “punchy dubstep smasher” sure to blow some minds at festivals and shows alike.

All Gods, Robots, and killer drops aside, the emerging AceMyth project stands for so much more as he rallies a community of forward-thinking bass heads. Scroll down to hear what’s he has going on in his own words, and be sure to link up with this rising talent below! This certainly won’t be the last time we hear the name AceMyth.

Acemyth – “Break It Down”

First up, how has this year been for growing the AceMyth project and sound?

The last year has been a difficult time but quarantine was a blessing in disguise for me. When lockdown started I went into the studio for months and came out with some of my best works including “Combustion” and “Damage”. After several years of development I finally found the sound I was always looking for; dark, powerful, groovy, melodic, bombastic bass music. Everything has been falling into place since then.

What do you hope listeners take away from your music or when attending your shows?

AceMyth is a collaboration of music, technology and primal human instinct. When you hear an AceMyth song or come to a show I want you to feel stronger, faster, more alive than ever before. I want it to be a mythical, life-changing experience. I want to wake you up and help unleash your inner power and advance your evolution towards your final form as a being. Together we help each other grow and build a community of forward-thinking bass heads.

Tell us about the mix, Gods & Robots!

The mix is called “Gods & Robots” and the idea was to tell a complete story. It’s like the score to a non-existent action movie about a war between heroes, villains, vengeful gods, killer robots and horrific alien monsters. The mix opens with an original orchestral theme and some unreleased tracks, and my other tunes are sprinkled throughout. My plan is to make this an ongoing series so look out for “Volume 2.”

And the new single, “Break It Down” is a self-release — what’s that like versus releasing with a label?

Working with labels has a lot of upsides; access to an established fanbase, brand-name recognition, live performance opportunities, etc… However there are several advantages to self-releasing; I am in complete control of the creative direction, the master, the artwork, the distribution methods, and I retain all of the royalties. I think an artist in my position should be doing both.

What can we expect from AceMyth in 2021?

I have a few dozen tracks that we are shopping around right now and figuring out the best ways to release them. I’m also working on things like a new merch line and a sample pack that will be out this summer. My plan is to be back on the road by the end of the year and working on a proper album or EP. In the meantime we’re going to keep doing the Mythic Livestream, the monthly streaming series that I host on my Twitch channel AceMythTV.

Anything else you want to plug / share?

I welcome you all to come join our Facebook Group called the “MythFam” where we are building a community of artists, music lovers and festival goers. Also I am working on starting a clothing brand and label that I will share more details about soon.

Liverpool Live Events Trials Result in “No Detectable Spread” of COVID-19

Liverpool trials intended to test for COVID-19 transmission at live events have resulted in “no detectable spread.”

In April and May, more than 13,000 people reportedly attended two nightclub events, a Sefton Park music festival, and a three-day business conference. Participants had to take a lateral flow test and show a negative result before attending. Face coverings and social distancing were not required.

Per BBC, “The process saw five people unable to attend after testing positive, four being identified as possibly having the virus at an event and seven having the virus four to seven days after they attended.”

Of the 11 people who tested positive following the events, “two people had been to the gig at Sefton Park and nine had attended the club events.”

However, less than half of the attendees returned for a PCR test as instructed five days later.

Despite this, Liverpool public health director Matt Ashton calls the trials “undoubtedly a success.”

He says lateral flow tests are a “key part of the jigsaw,” as event promoters, public health teams and partners work to ensure the safe return of live events.

Prof Iain Buchan from the University of Liverpool says, “timely data and quick action to trace and test contacts of people testing positive, both before and after events, was key to containing potential outbreaks.”
