Calvin Harris Radiates Happiness with New Single, “By Your Side” ft. Tom Grennan [LISTEN]

Calvin Harris is serving up feel good vibes with his brand new track, “By Your Side” featuring Tom Grennan.

The song is the definition of infectious, with a bouncy beat, bright synths, and lyrics that inspire happiness. Perhaps the best part of the release has been witnessing how genuinely excited Calvin Harris is to get this particular production out into the world.

He shares of the track:

…this new one, it felt nostalgic to me in a nice way. The sort of thing that nobody else is making it, so that feels good. And regardless of how it does or whatever, it felt really nice to me.

As for the possibility of a new album, we shouldn’t hold our breath. The producer reveals in a new interview via Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, he’s much more dedicated to putting out “fun” music with “zero pressure.”

For me, it’s making records that make me feel good in the hope that other people feel good from it. I’m a service provider. If you want to listen to my songs and you enjoy them then that’s absolutely fantastic. I don’t really ask for anything more than that for me.

That being said, “By Your Side” is an absolute blast — listen here!

No Skips On San Holo’s Sophomore Album, “bb u ok?”

It’s been three years since San Holo’s debut album, album1, and the Dutch artist has not only managed to hone in on his core sound but expand it exponentially. And while I fully realize that those actions are inherently at ends with each other, think of it as zooming in on the light spectrum and seeing all the other myriad colors found within a magnified portion of the spectrum. (Yes, I’m using a “light” metaphor.)

His sophomore album, bb u ok?, is officially out today, featuring a sprawling 20 tracks, including collaborations with Bipolar Sunshine, The Nicholas, American Football, Weezer, Chet Porter, and capping it off with Mija & Mr. Carmack.

Prior to the release, we’d already received six expansive singles, which, on any typical album release, might seem like a lot. But with 20 songs, it was barely more than a quarter of the full listening experience and there’s so much more to experience and discover within the folds of the emotional and creative body of work.

The combination of San’s bleeding-heart guitar chords, processed vocals, and delicate synths serenade throughout the album, more pronounced, more nuanced, more meaningful than ever before.

Listen to the new album below, in the morning, at night, when you’re happy, when you’re sad, when you need to get over an ex, when you’ve found someone new, when you need to feel your feelings or escape them.

Lowdown Sets the Bar with “Organ Donor,” Debut Single on 411 Records [LISTEN]

Lowdown just dropped a hype, club-ready cut — “Organ Donor” — out now on his very own 411 Records.

The imprint’s debut sets the bar for future releases to come, as Lowdown brings the energy with uplifting piano progressions, singalong vocals, and various nostalgic elements that scream out early-90s-dark-sweaty-dance-floor.

Per the track’s press release, within the title lies an ode to DJ Shadow, one of Lowdown’s earliest musical influences. The Brisbane-born talent knew from a young age he was destined to create, starting out as a hip hop DJ before transitioning into the world of electronic/dance music.

Having released on various leading labels including Universal, Dim Mak, Insomniac, Night Bass, Confession, This Ain’t Bristol, Box of Cats and more, introducing his own is the natural next step.

Listen here and look out for more from Lowdown and 411 Records!

SOPHIE’s Brother Discusses Future of Unreleased Material

Avant-garde producer and transgender icon SOPHIE has left a lasting impact industry, forever changing the scope of pop, electronic, and beyond — and there’s so much yet to be heard.

According to a new report from Billboard, the future of potential posthumous releases remains primarily up to SOPHIE’s family and also partly to the labels, Future Classic and the Transgressive Records.

Unreleased material reportedly ranges from “rough sketches to nearly complete songs,” some of which were at the mixing stage when the producer tragically passed in January.

SOPHIE’s brother, Ben Long, reveals to Billboard, “There is a lot of music in the vaults, absolutely. There are literally hundreds of tracks.”

Long worked closely with SOPHIE in the studio and on tour and says the plan was to release a pop record, then an experimental album, and keep the cycle going.

“There are many, many discussions to be had,” Long shares. “The most important thing for us is doing right by SOPHIE — putting stuff out that SOPHIE was happy with and would want to be out.”

The possibility of SOPHIE’s unheard productions getting released remains a bittersweet topic and we’re grateful for the unmatched brilliance heard thus far. Explore SOPHIE’s exquisite collection here.

Watch San Holo & Alison Wonderland Talk For An Hour On Making Music During COVID

Two fan-favorite producers, San Holo and Alison Wonderland, recently sat down together via Australian music outlet, Tone Deaf, and sat down for nearly an hour talking about making music during the time of COVID, and their vastly different circumstances.

Alison, at least at the time of the interview, was in New Zealand where COVID isn’t even a thought anymore and everything is very open, while San mentions his situation is “pretty bad.”

“We can’t even go out shopping; basically the only thing we can do is get a coffee inside and then [leave] as soon as we can,” he says.

“We’re living completely opposite lives,” Alison responded.

The two talk about new projects and producing music while in their respective lockdowns, especially with respect to having tours and shows stripped from their regular schedule.

You can watch the full conversation via Tone Deaf here.

Some of the names on the list are more surprising, like LICK, Haywyre, Moore Kismet, Yung Bae and Vanic, but we can’t wait to see these artists connect with their dreamier side.

And then there’s the artists who just make sense like Amtrac, Shallou, Crystal Skies, Pluko, William Black, Kaivon, Two Lanes and more.

Your EDM Premiere: Theatrix Warns Against the Dangers of Becoming a ‘Dataslave’ [Divination Recordings]

It’s not as if the LA-based Theatrix hasn’t been busy since his last EP on his own Divination Recordings imprint. Since the Golden Dawn EP in late 2019, the spiritually-based label ha kept a consistent single release schedule throughout 2020 with tracks by Toss-T, Spekski, Rubix (BE), Krispe and his own “Antagonist” single. He’s also released a track for Yana‘s 2020 compilation album, been involved in the Headsbass projects, a series of releases by the mental health advocate label Beats In Mind, as well as Stand Together, a collective focusing on equality and diversity in D&B. Apparently all that wasn’t enough, however, because Theatrix is now about to release his sophomore EP, The Technomancy.

One of the fun things about Theatrix and a testament to his theatre-based background, is that he knows how to branch out style-wise. While unified by a theme around the new world order and how spirituality fits into it, every track on The Technomancy nonetheless has a completely different vibe from the others. The title track is heavy and cinematic with neuro flourishes and lush sound design that’s both ancient and dystopian. “You & I” featuring Gracie van Brunt  is melodic and emotional with a video game-inspired running synth line. “Cybergoth” featuring MC Dino is a surprising industrial trip that gets even more surprising as it switches to drum & bass in the last minute or so and album closer “Daemonology” is another surprising format: an industrial/darkwave hybrid that sounds like the load music to a cyber demon computer program.

Our premiere track, “Dataslave” featuring MC Jtec is probably the most classically D&B track on the EP, almost sounding intelligent in some palaces with its mid synth placement. Eerie and evocative, the light-as-air snares and almost ambient sound design balance out the heaviness of the afore-mentioned synths. It seems as if the listener is in a network of information, data zooming by in organized chaos as some unseen grounding force tries to make sense of it all. Is that The Technomancy? Let’s freaking hope so, for all our sakes.

Theatrix definitely did some experimenting on The Technomancy both with sound and composition and it really seems to have paid off. The unifying factor in his diverse style has always been that subtle sound design that makes the listener think beyond the standard bassface, but with this EP there’s even more under the surface, or it’s at least more obvious.

The Technomancy drops tomorrow, June 4 on Divination Recordings. Click here to pre-save.

Kaskade & Insomniac Might Take Title of Largest Single Headliner EDM Event Just Weeks After Illenium

Just a couple weeks ago, we reported that Illenium’s special Trilogy performance at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas could become the largest single headliner EDM event in US history. With a capacity of 65,000, Allegiant more than doubles most traditional arena shows and Illenium certainly has the star power to make it happen. Now, Kaskade and Insomniac could potentially usurp that title just two weeks later at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Though we seriously doubt it was Insomniac’s or Kaskade’s intention to “usurp” the title from Illenium, the achievement would be notable nonetheless. SoFi Stadium, the new home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, is located at Hollywood Park, a nearly 300-acre sports and entertainment destination. The 3.1 million square-foot SoFi Stadium is the largest stadium in the NFL, as well as the first indoor-outdoor stadium. It seats approximately 70,000, expandable up to 100,000, with more than 260 luxury suites and more than 13,000 premium seats.

“Every time I play in Los Angeles, it evokes this feeling that is unmatched anywhere else in the world. It’s that sensation of getting into your own bed after being away for too long, it’s heat in the cold and it’s comfort when anxiety has been playing its game. Any show I play in LA is something I keep protected. I make sure that when I do it, I come correct because it’s that meaningful to me. LA is home,” says Kaskade. “Coming out of quarantine, I really want to do something special for the west coast massive as well as all my fans who are willing to put the time in to travel. It needs to be just right. There is a legacy I’ve been building here with LACC, Sun Soaked, Staples Center and so many of my other favorite shows. I believe that being one of the first artists to introduce SoFi Stadium to the public is a rare and awesome opportunity and this show is going to be a career high for me. I’m excited to share this with my audience and I’m honored to do this in LA, my home.”

Fans can register now at www.kaskademusic.com for first access to the ticket presale, which begins Wednesday, June 9 at 10 a.m. PT. The general ticket on sale will begin Friday, June 11 at 10 a.m. PT. SoFi Stadium’s standard safety and attendance protocols can be found online at www.sofistadium.com. More detailed guidelines will be released, as needed, closer to the event date in July.

A Zedd & JoJo Collaboration Could Be In The Works

While we all wait for Zedd’s new album, whether it’s coming this year or next, and the forthcoming collaboration with Curbi, another new collaboration could be in the works between him and pop singer/songwriter, JoJo.

Zedd has produced mostly pop/dance crossovers in the years since his last album, True Colors, teaming up with the likes of Kehlani, Elley Duhé, Jasmine Thompson, Katy Perry, Maren Morris, Liam Payne, and Alessia Cara. Though the Curbi collaboration appears to be a return to his EDM sound, it seems that Zedd is pretty well firmly in the crossover space now, especially with this collaboration on the table.

JoJo tweeted at the German/Russian producer, “I want to sing on one of your songs @Zedd!! Just puttin it out there.” To which he replied, “Let’s make it happen.”

Let’s make it happen https://t.co/R6Hva4TQjj

— Zedd (@Zedd) June 2, 2021

We’ll have to see what comes of these tweets, whether they do get in the studio or not, whether it ends up released, or if it’s one of those things where they’ve already finished a track and are just drumming up hype. Time will tell.
