Illenium & Virtual Riot Remixed One Of The Songs Off Illenium’s Forthcoming Album [VIDEO]

Illenium’s next album, Fallen Embers, is due out in just over a month, July 16. While anticipation runs high for this body of work, we’re already getting some remixes of songs that haven’t even come out yet.

Yesterday, @illeniumINTEL on Twitter shared a video (below) of a new remix by Illenium and Virtual Riot, of one of the unreleased songs from the forthcoming album. The audio quality isn’t the best, but you can definitely tell that it’s some significantly hard dubstep. So while we’re not likely to get that many heavy songs on the album itself, it’s reassuring to know that Illenium, even with others, is still pumping out some of the heavy material elsewhere.

In other news, NGHTMRE shared on his Instagram stories that he was working on a special remix for the Denver producer, so we’re sure to get a remix album or EP of some single at least some time in the future, as well.

Check out the video below!

Roblox Hit with $200 Million Lawsuit for Alleged Illegal Music Streams

Online gaming company Roblox has been hit with a lawsuit for, allegedly, illegally streaming copyrighted music. The kid-friendly gaming platform has insane reach, with 42 million daily users — and hosts a massive library of music uploaded by users to incorporate into games.

The National Music Publishers’ Association is reportedly seeking a minimum of $200 million in damages from Roblox for its use of songs from various artists without proper compensation. Popular music acts including deadmau5, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran and the Rolling Stones are mentioned.

The suit represents a number of publisher plaintiffs including ABKCO Music & Records, Big Machine Records, Concord Music Group with Pulse Music Group, Downtown Music Publishing, Hipgnosis, Kobalt Music Group, MPL Music Publishing, Peermusic, Reservoir Media Management, Spirit Music Group and UMPG.

The NMPA’s lawsuit aims to “ensure songwriters are fully paid for their works on the platform and that Roblox takes seriously its obligations to those who have made its service so popular and profitable.”

On Thursday, Roblox issued a statement saying the company is working “vigorously” to defend itself and “achieve a fair resolution,” further asserting the lawsuit “represents a fundamental misunderstanding” of how the platform works.

Amazon-owned streaming service Twitch may also be in trouble, as NMPA president/CEO David Israelite spoke on an “intensive enforcement program to ID and remove unlicensed songs from [Twitch].”

A-Trak, Princess Nokia, and Cookiee Kawaii to perform with AI-DJs at WarpSound Music Experience

The first of its kind event will feature sets from Princess Nokia, Cookiee Kawaii to join A-Trak and Virtual Artists Nayomi, DJ Dragoon, and Gnar Heart, with original music from the AI-driven virtual DJs that is generative and adaptive: the audience will be able to influence the set from their mobile phones in real-time.

The 2021 Tribeca Festival will feature an impressive line-up of Cinema360 immersive pieces, but only one promises musical performances by both a hyper-creative, half-reptilian DJ and a former DMC World Champion turntablist.

Taking place Wednesday, June 16, at 5:00pm ET, Authentic Artists’ WarpSound Music Experience will be a first-of-its-kind, audience-interactive, live music showcase that pairs three dynamic human artists with three founding members of the WarpSound virtual artist collective.

Lighting up a 40-foot LED screen will be WarpSound headliners Nayomi, the cyborg queen of lo-fi, DJ Dragoon, a reptilian DJ who takes monster energy to a whole new level, and Gnar Heart, a friendly AI bunny, reprogrammed to “shred the gnar.” The IRL and virtual artists will tag-team for a series of genre- and mind-bending duets.

While the WarpSound Music Experience is currently sold-out, those lucky enough to have a Tribeca Festival ticket should make sure they’re at the Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place to participate in this history-making human x machine musical collaboration.

GRiZ Drops Vibrant Dubstep Banger “Tie-Dye Sky” [LISTEN]

DJ/producer and multi-instrumentalist GRiZ is on fire in 2021 — and he just dropped his latest track, “Tie-Dye Sky.”

This psychedelic dubstep banger flexes GRiZ’s innovative production expertise, built with soulful vocals and melodies, as well as sounds reminiscent of dubstep’s golden age. Blindingly vibrant, pleasantly surprising, “Tie-Dye Sky” is an instant, quintessential edition to the producer’s ever-expanding catalog.

Speaking on “Tie-Dye Sky,” Grant says, “To me this track is like staring up at the sky and watching it explode into a kaleidoscope of colors.”

Per the song’s press release, “‘Tie-Dye Sky’ showcases GRiZ’s 2021 mission to release the music he loves and play it for diehard fans in his favorite places.” More on music and show announcements here.

Poo Bear Drops New Single With Production From Skrillex & Sasha Sirota, “The Day You Left”

It’s been four years since Skrillex and Poo Bear teamed up for “Would You Ever,” but the pair have obviously kept in touch ever since. Now, they’re together again on Poo Bear’s new single, “The Day You Left.”

Skrillex lends his hand at production, along with Sasha Sirota, on the pensive and melancholy single. Little elements from Skrillex’s noticeable production techniques permeate the single, like the recognizable vocal chops and even some of the drum processing. But it’s certainly a very different vibe that Skrillex’s other latest release yesterday.

Dillon Francis Goes Deep With Drove On New EP Single, “Together”

Drove just dropped his new EP, Dawn, on Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS, the follow up to his Dusk EP earlier this year. On one of the new singles, he teams up with Dillon Francis once again for “Together.”

“We already had a collaboration with Dillon on our previous EP ‘Dusk’ which hit 3M + streams,” says Drove. “When we told Dillon about a sequel to ‘Dusk’ he wanted to join immediately. This time choosing for a more darker themed production, resulting into our brand new song, Together.”

As Drove says, “Together” is definitely a darker production that teeters on the edge of deep house, vastly different from Dillon’s own latest single, “Unconditional.” The new collaboration has a haunting, melancholy melody paired with airy vocals and a pulsing rhythm that is almost hypnotic.

Marshmello Pushes Boundaries With Newest Album, “Shockwave” [LISTEN]

Up until now, every new Marshmello album has been titled Joytime, with each successive iteration receiving a Roman numeral in order of release. For the first time, today, he’s released an album without the Joytime moniker, his fourth studio album, Shockwave.

The 12-track Shockwave explores genres such as trap, dance, bass house, dubstep, tech, and everything in between by calling upon collaborators like TroyBoi, DJ Sliink, Nitti Gritti & Megan Thee Stallion, Carnage, Eptic & Juicy J, Subtronics, SIPPY, and PEEKABOO. Sonically, it’s far more diverse and experimental, for Marshmello, than his previous albums. A lot of this apparently has to do with spending more time in the studio with Southside.

“I’ve been blessed enough to be taken under the wing of the legendary hip hop producer Southside,” says Marshmello. “[…] With this new album, I wanted the influence of a lot of hip hop drums, and I think listening through, you can hear that.”

Over just the past few weeks, Marshmello has been pumping out new singles from the album, dropping six of them all before the album was released, the latest being the massive dubstep collaboration with Subtronics, “House Party.” Among the remaining singles, we get even more collaborations, all with different flavors and influences.

On first listen, it could certainly appear that the album suffers from a lack of cohesive sound. As it goes from one genre to another to another and back again, with no real thread tying them together, that can often happen. But I also think that we’ve become too conditioned to expect full, concept albums from artists lately. Shockwave is more like an extended EP, showing off a bunch of fun, different sounds and presenting them in a concise package. And in that sense, Marshmello succeeds.
