REPORT: Tomorrowland 2021 Permit Rejected Due to Public Health & Safety Risks

In an unexpected turn of events, Tomorrowland may be forced to postpone once again.

Despite plans to fully reopen the country this summer, including large-scale events, the Belgian government has denied the festival’s permit application. Organizers describe the decision as “a sledgehammer blow.”

The possibility of Tomorrowland taking place over two weekends, August 27 – 29 and September 3 – 5, seemed promising just over a week ago. Festival organizers shared a positive outlook on the potential 2021 event and were hopeful to move forward with lifted restrictions.

However, local news sources reveal the festival’s permit has been denied due to “risks to public safety and health.” More specific reasons cited include lack of police force and concerns from advisory group GEMS.

Furthermore, “The Ministerial Decree regarding the maximum capacity at events from mid-August (75,000 people) has not yet been published. That is why mayors can legally only allow events up to 400 people for the time being.”

Spokesperson Debby Wilmsen weighs in on the decision — “We haven’t had a festival for two years, which is very hard both financially and emotionally for our entire team. We were so keen on this, and it all looked positive.”

Pendulum Completes Their First EP In 11 Years With Hybrid Minds Collab, “Louder Than Words”

Eleven years ago, Pendulum released their final album, Immersion. Afterward, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen would tour the world as Knife Party as El Hornet continued the legacy of Pendulum’s live shows with raucous DJ sets. But, we always knew that the extraordinary drum & bass outfit would one day return.

Today marks the release of the group’s first major project in 11 years, the Elemental EP. Following the release of “Driver,” “Nothing For Free,” and “Come Alive,” they wrap up the EP with the release of “Louder Than Words,” their collaboration with Hybrid Minds.

Overall, Elemental does a phenomenal job of showing that Pendulum haven’t lost a step at all in this past decade, as sonic elements from Hold Your ColourIn Silico, and Immersion permeate each and every track. That being said, each track is also a clear evolution from their old sounds as they work to incorporate more advanced techniques and songwriting into their repertoire.

Listen to Elemental and their new collaboration with Hybrid Minds below.

Pretence Brings Energy & “Emotions” with New Track via Uprise Music [LISTEN]

Pretence explores his softer, melodic side with “Emotions,” out now.

We’ve heard a range of productions with brooding intensity from Pretence in the past, but nothing quite like this. “Emotions” puts forth a feelsy, atmospheric soundscape that quickly switches into a killer drop, complete with a groove-ridden, wubby bassline.

Pretence shares of the release:

This tune is quite special to me. I wanted to make something that’s different to my heavy stuff but still underlies my pretence sound. I wrote this inspired by tchami and zhu, as they both bring such energy and emotion into their productions.

“Emotions” follows up a steady stream of Pretence originals including “The Acid,” “Bloodbath,” and “Deadweight” with CABLE, delivering an unexpected change of pace. The track contains both delicate and gritty moments, maintaining the project’s dark signature.

Ghastly Finally Releases His Debut EP, “The OG” [LISTEN]

It’s a little backward to release your debut EP following your debut album, but Ghastly has never been one to do things by the book. After releasing The Mystifying Oracle back in 2018, he’s been steadily releasing singles, but The OG EP is finally out today with four bass-tastic tracks.

Ever since 4/20, Ghastly has been taking steps towards his highly anticipated EP, The OG. Both the title track and “Blackout” have been released, but two more bass-boosted anthems join the fold for this hard hitting project.

Ghastly shifts genre for the electro-infused “Octopussy” that pairs industrial inspiration with a touch of horror. “Creep It Real” kicks things back into high gear for an energetic burst of high-octane dubstep. With festivals on their return, Ghastly’s The OG EP is stacked full of rage-ready tracks that will have crowds going their hardest!

“I wrote The OG in the middle of the pandemic as a return to having fun and being care-free again and also as an ode to my pet chameleon that had passed away because I wrote it while he was hanging out on my head and he truly was an OG.” – Ghastly
