Sullivan King’s Rock Album ‘LOUD’ Is Officially Out Today [LISTEN]

Our lord and savior, Sullivan King, bringer of rock in thine EDM, hallowed be thy name.

For years and years, we’ve enjoyed Sullivan King bringing elements of rock and metal into his uniquely branded productions, and finally today we have a full rock album from the talented artist, LOUD. Occasionally, his dubstep roots manifest themselves and peek through the surface, but overall, this is the rock album we’ve always wanted from him.

Apart from the three singles that were released prior to the full release today, we get seven new singles, including a skit-like introductory track, “…And We Wish You The Best Of Luck,” as well as a collaboration with his long-time friend Grabbitz to cap off the project.

The singles “LOUD” and “Venomous” are the only two wherein dubstep bleeds out, so if for whatever reason you were disappointed that it’s not “all” rock, the new singles are going to be right up your alley. In particular, “One,” “Scene Kids Unite!” and “Help” with Grabbitz are sure to scratch that itch.

Honestly I don’t even know what to post or say today, I’m just so insanely happy to be putting out a record that showcases a different side of my music. Hope you all love it as much as I do, only a few hours left!

Sunta Moon – For You I Would Stay The Night

One to keep an eye on for the rest of this year and beyond has to be Sunta Moon. She is in the spotlight this week with her second single to date, the chilled ‘For You I Would Stay The Night’. This succeeds her debut ‘Reality’ and features production from Eddie Boy.

Her voice is full of mystery and subtle nuances, and leads this latest record brilliantly. In addition, the warm guitar tones giving it extra body fit inside its melody perfectly and are a delight. Sunta sings about meeting someone who should be a great match and explains: “It takes more than just some texts, a beautiful face, attraction or a shared moment to actually have something meaningful. That’s why the lyrics say “It’ll take more than that for me to say- that for you I would stay the night.” But in the end the song is hopeful, as in maybe some day there will be a person who is the exception, who is that emotional beautiful connection.”

Pasquale Rotella Makes Statement via Day Trip Addressing Last-Minute Venue Change

Two days ago, Day Trip Fest, the new IP from Insomniac that promised beach front vibes and a cool ocean breeze to accompany plenty of wonderful house music, moved from Berth 46 in San Pedro to the parking lot adjacent to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, about 20 miles away. Predictably, many people were angry at the last minute change, especially as Insomniac’s reasoning suggested the move was simply in an effort to sell more tickets.

Late last night, Pasquale Rotella took to the Day Trip Instagram account to explain the reason behind the move.

“After we sold out at capacity, we were notified that Berth 46, an LA City-owned venue, was having challenges providing the necessary City resources & staffing for an event of our size over the first major holiday weekend out of COVID,” he explained. “This left us with a difficult choice: randomly pick thousands of you out of a hat to cancel your tickets & stay at Berth 46, or move to a venue in the City of Inglewood with the available resources to ensure every ticketholder could join us. This was an unfortunate reality with producing the first music festival in Cali coming out of a pandemic.”

Pasquale claimed earlier in his statement that the reason for not disclosing that information in the first place was because “we didn’t feel [the whole story] would provide value & would only create confusion.” As it turns out, the opposite was true.

In addressing the new location, will have free shuttles from the hotels near Berth 46 and will also pay down the parking fees at Hollywood Lot so that parking is free. Beyond that, if you still want a refund, you can email order-support@frontgatetickets.com.

Many in the comments are happy with Pasquale owning up to the perceived slight toward fans, many others are still upset the move happened in the first place. You can read the full statement and look at comments from would-be attendees in the post from Day Trip below.

Your EDM Premiere: D&B Beats out of Ibiza? Balearic Breaks Signs Simon Splice for First Single

It stands to reason that even on an island known for house, trance, hardstyle and foam, there would have to be some small beacon of bass music, right? Drum & bass is truly everywhere, after all, and no population anywhere exclusively only likes one type of music, even Ibiza. That said, we in the EDM world really haven’t had much proof that there’s a much faster, more syncopated heartbeat anywhere on the world’s most infamous party island. Enter: Balearic Breaks, the new imprint whose goal is to carve out a sweet little D&B space in the heart of House Island.

Founded by Darren Jay, co-owner of the 30-year strong AWOL name, former Metalheadz manager and
former resident with Ibiza events promoter Together and club Amnesia and founder of the BassFace Ibiza brand Alex Herbert, Balearic Breaks is the first real push to get a drum & bass label up and running out of Ibiza. The heads clearly have the cachet, so the next step is to see if they can bring the A&R to make it work. Luckily, they’ve pulled a pretty big stunner right out of the gate.

Despite being a relative newcomer, Simon Splice has already proven himself as one of the most technically clean and musically diverse producers on the scene with his two EPs on Chris Inperspective’s Eloisa Records. Now he’s branched out even more for Balearic Breaks, splashing out two soulful liquid tracks due out this Friday, June 25 for their debut release.

The two-sided single “Dance With Me/Life Goes On” is all about classic summer jam vibes with an edge. The b side “Life Goes On” features vocalist Ewan Sim in an emotive, existential examination of the wheels of time while Splice’s equally evocative synths push the track into an even more esoteric space while the liquidy, snare-heavy beat grounds and drives it. Soulful and introspective, “Life Goes On” works on the summer sunset dancefloor or on a contemplative road trip.

Today’s premiere is the single’s a side, “Dance With Me.” While also evocative of early 00s liquid, this track has some of Splice’s darker edge showing through the expertly crafted snares, piano-based melodies and ambient, layered sound design. The vox sample is also classic early liquid and therein lies some of the edge, as it’s a dissonant key to the more major piano parts. Also in a few spots there’s a cool sine wave sub bass that hurtles through all this pretty, light melody and snare work. It’s a fun jolt for the bass heads and lets fans know that, despite these tracks being squarely in the liquid camp, Simon Splice is clearly not finished with hard D&B.

The marriage of Balearic Breaks and Simon Splice is perfect for the imprint’s first release. While not jarring to a rave scene that’s based on melody and summer vibes, the signing of Simon Splice and the tracks themselves promise a little deep bass for the underground heads in all of us. The scene can likely expect a lot of musical diversity out of this label just as much as curated party vibes. Stay tuned.

“Dance With Me”/”Live Goes On” drop on Balearic Breaks tomorrow, Friday June 25. Click here to pre-order or pre-save.

48 people charged, man has his throat slit, & more at ‘Redneck Rave’ in Kentucky

A ‘Redneck Rave’ in Kentucky last weekend has left dozens injured and 48 people charged after a 5-day, alcohol-fueled catastrophe.

Organizers claim that 20,000 tickets were sold to the event in the small town of Mammoth Cave in Kentucky last week, which led to dozens of injuries, arrests, and more. Among the incidents, one man had his throat slit by a friend after a drunken fight, a man choked a woman until she passed out, and a man driving a side-by-side at the festival also ended up with a log impaled in his abdomen.

According to sources, 29-year-old Lancer Hodges was arrested after he allegedly strangled a woman until she passed out when they got into a fight over a blanket. He was charged with strangulation, wanton endangerment and fourth-degree domestic violent assault.

The throat slasher still has not been apprehended.

As for the man with the log through his stomach, he was airlifted to a hospital.

Further reports from the festival describe a situation with “multiple others who suffered severed fingers, broken bones, dislocated joints and severe lacerations at the festival. Medics also treated dozens more who had become ill because they were so drunk.” Dozens of attendees were charged with a range of offenses from drug trafficking to felony assault.

Though police were aware that the event would likely cause trouble, the sheriff ultimately made the decision to contain the chaos to the park because “he did not have enough staff to try and stop it.”

“The first vehicle that came through, we found meth, marijuana, and an open alcohol container,” Edmonson County Sheriff Shane Doyle told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

“And then one of the occupants had two active warrants… ‘We were like ‘well, this doesn’t bode well for the weekend.’”

There is apparently another installment of the Redneck Rave for the fall, scheduled for Oct. 14-17, according to a Facebook page for the event.
