Maliboux just dropped his newest banger this past Friday, and the music video just dropped today via Space Yacht.
The song itself is exactly what you want at peak set time, full of exceptionally wonky bass lines and a memorable vocal hook that’ll have you singing along in the club as you wriggle a couple screws loose yourself with all the headbanging you’re doing.
“This song was initially created as the intro for my first tour back in early 2020 before the pandemic,” says Maliboux. “I wanted it to have ominous, dark energy. I envisioned an actual freak show (hence the title) from the late 19th century era, and tried to create a song that would emulate the eerie vibes you might feel attending one back in that day.”
Shot & directed by Brendyn Gilbert & Ricky Lawrence, the video keeps it relatively simple, with only a single man dancing in frame in a bare warehouse. Strobe lights and dance moves (Dancer: Vinny Balbo) that combine elements of contemporary, and seemingly krump, are all it takes to provide an engaging watching experience as the song plays over the top.
“We initially wanted to make a dance piece that reflected an artificially intelligent man becoming self aware throughout the routine,” reflected Brendyn, “and once we heard ‘Freakshow’ by Maliboux it was like a puzzle fell into place and we finally had our song. We then called up our friend Vinny Balbo who’s this incredible improvisational contemporary dancer and he brought the whole thing to life.”
